Marjorie Hirschinger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2025.
Indianapolis - Marjorie Louise (Relander) Hirschinger, born June 27, 1930, in Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on February 27, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Marjorie, known fondly as Margie, was raised in Lafayette and graduated from St. Francis High School. She dedicated her early years to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother before teaching organ lessons and working as a remedial reading teacher at Hershey Elementary. Later, she became a purchasing agent at Fairfield Manufacturing before retiring to Florida.

Margie embraced retirement with enthusiasm, spending 34 years in Englewood and Leesburg, Florida. She shared her love of the arts by teaching adult tap and hula dancing, harmonica, and ukulele lessons. She founded the Pocket Fuzz and The Happy Tappers, performing for many years alongside a wonderful group of women while donating all proceeds to Meals on Wheels. Her creativity extended to sewing, painting, ice skating, knitting, quilling, and drawing caricatures. She brought joy and laughter to those around her with her generous spirit and sense of humor.

She is survived by her children, Marcia A. Soder, DDS, of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Thomas L. Hirschinger of Orleans, Indiana; as well as three grandchildren: Katelyn M. Lucas, OD; David A. Soder of Brownsburg; and Brooke V. Freire of Chicago, Illinois.

Margie will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Ed, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where he was honored for his service in World War II.

Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
