Marjorie Butler "Marji" Kablik

Marjorie Butler Kablik, known to her loved ones as Marji, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023, in Crossville, TN, at the age of 81. She was born on July 1, 1942, in New Britain, CT, to Mildred (Carroll) Murtha and George Murtha.

Marji had a passion for writing from an early age, and her talent led her to a successful career in journalism. She began her career at the Hartford Courant, where she wrote the beloved column "Marji's High Line." She was also the founder of "Marji's Minstrels," a pioneering column that captivated young readers. Marji's dedication to her craft allowed her the opportunity to interview iconic celebrities such as the Rolling Stones, Sonny and Cher, and many others who visited Connecticut.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Marji was an avid volunteer at the Estuary in Old Saybrook, CT, where she selflessly taught writing classes. She was also the author of four humorous books, which charmingly depicted her experiences growing up in New Britain and raising her eccentric family.

Marji will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including her daughters Dana Wichmann, Jorie Butler, and Ryan McIntosh. She is also survived by her three brothers, George Murtha, Robert Svensk, and Donald Svensk. Marji's memory will be cherished by her eleven grandchildren: Andrew, Alexander, Sydney, Morgan Wichmann; W.Cody, G.Storm, N.Chance, Carrolline Butler; W.Fox, Hawthorne, Allen-Grey McIntosh; and her great-granddaughter, Salem Butler, and sister Zoe Harness.

Marji was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and George Murtha, as well as her husbands Allen Butler and Thomas Kablik.

Marji's impact on her community and her loved ones will never be forgotten. While there will be no services to celebrate her life, her spirit will live on through the memories shared by those who knew and loved her.
