Mark Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 5, 2024.
Mark Donald Adams, aged 68, passed away on November 14, 2024, at his home in Brentwood, CA, after a 23-month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). Born on May 6, 1956, Mark dedicated his life to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather deeply cherished by his family and friends.

Mark and his wife, Nan, enjoyed active lives in New Orleans, LA, and the East Bay of California, where they have homes. Nothing pleased Mark more than an afternoon or evening of live music with friends.

Mark graduated from Paris High School in Paris, IL and furthered his education at the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His career spanned significant roles, including a Senior General Field Engineer at Schlumberger Well Services, where he notably met his wife, Nan, also a Schlumberger engineer, on what turned out to be a very successful blind date. He later joined Entergy Operations and served in various engineering positions, lastly as an Engineering Superintendent, where his expertise and leadership were highly valued.

Beyond his professional life, Mark and Nan were dedicated world travelers. Mark was involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Scoutmaster, where he influenced many young lives and supported his sons as they both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a parading member of a number of Carnival Krewes in New Orleans – including the Krewe of Endymion and Krewe of Cork. He also enjoyed flying drones, channeling his creativity into editing and producing drone footage from the many places and continents to which he and Nan traveled, a hobby that brought him immense joy and satisfaction.

Mark is survived by his adoring wife of 40 years, Nan; loving sons and daughter-in-law Hank, Riley and Lily; and precious grandsons, Connor and Cyrus. He also leaves behind brothers, Jon and Rob and sisters, Susan and Amy. He was grateful for the many friends he considered Family; they enriched his life in more ways than may be described here. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Don Adams. He was also preceded in death by his devoted mother-in-law, Mary.

Mark's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his family of friends, travel, his career, and his hobbies, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. His legacy of intelligence, compassion, kindness, leadership, and creativity will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all that knew and loved him.

The family would like to acknowledge the medical team at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans and the highly skilled and compassionate medical and caregiver support teams at UCSF in San Francisco. Our journey was made easier by the exemplary care we received at UCSF.

My condolences to Mark's family. I took a trip to Kenya with Mark and Nan, the couple was so easy and at home with everyone. I consider Mark and Nan as family, and so I am lost for words. My last visit to New Orleans for St. Patrick's day '22 was the last time to see Mark. Mark has left a legacy of being ever friendly and helpful to everyone he interacted with. May he RIP.
