Mark BLUMES Obituary

BLUMES _ Mark Warren On November 16, 2002 (the twelfth day of Kislev, 5763), Mark Warren Blumes passed away suddenly at the age of 59 years. He will be deeply missed by his best friend and cherished partner Michelle; his four children, Terry, Jeremy, Mira and Chad, and their mother Roz Fayerman; his beloved mother Ruth; brother Moe (Carol); nephews, Stephen (Allison) and Michael; and nieces, Sharon and Lauren (James). Mark was, first and foremost, devoted to his children, taking great pride in each and every one of their achievements. Mark was best-known as the founder of Mark's Work Wearhouse, a company he led for over twenty years. Considered one of Canada's best merchants, always ahead of his time, his visions included retail concepts (private label, "at or through", stock replenishment and "destination") whose genesis is a testament to his genius. Mark was a fighter who believed in his dreams - he taught us all to never give up and that our reach should always exceed our grasp. Mark was a very generous spirit. He sympathized with others' pain, championed the underdog and supported those in need. He was also a very generous person - the 'Babecare' wing at the Jewish Centre and the sanctuary at Chabad are testaments to his charitable legacy. We have chosen to honour him with a very special memorial at Chabad. If friends so desire, donations can be made to Chabad Lubavitch of Alberta by calling 403-238-4880. Mark was predeceased by his father Babe and his sister Barbara. Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1702 - 17 Avenue S.W. on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Erlton Street Cemetery, Erlton Street and 30 Avenue S.W. Arrangements in care of the Chevra Kadisha of Calgary, 1702 - 17 Avenue S.W. Telephone: 244-4717. 277264
