In Loving Memory of Mark Edward Boero

September 3, 1944 - May 12, 2025

Mark Boero passed away peacefully at home in Bel Marin Keys on May 12, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born in San Francisco and raised in Sleepy Hollow, San Anselmo, Mark was a lifelong Marin County resident. He graduated from Drake High School, the University of Nevada-Reno, and the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, going on to practice alongside his father and brothers in San Rafael.

He and his wife, Jo, built a home on a hilltop in Sleepy Hollow, where they raised their daughters and spent more than four decades together. They loved to entertain and spent countless weekends playing tennis at the Marin County Tennis Club. Their home was always full of laughter, warmth, and the company of those they loved most-always welcoming guests with a glass of wine, an unbelievable view, and a few great stories.

Mark lived life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was passionate about hunting, fishing, skiing, tennis, and horseback riding, and had a lifelong love of games-especially cards, backgammon, and Pedro.

He found deep joy in the outdoors, from riding the trails with fellow Sonoma County Trail Blazers to duck hunting with his loyal dog by his side, or carving tracks in fresh powder. But fly fishing became his greatest passion. Mark traveled far and wide to fish-from Montana's Bighorn River to the rivers of Alaska, the flats of Belize, and the wild waters of New Zealand.

Being a grandfather brought him great pride. He loved watching his grandchildren ski, perform, ride horses, and hunt-especially when their interests mirrored his own.

After his Parkinson's diagnosis, Mark retired from dentistry. Though the disease narrowed the range of things he could do, it never diminished his independent spirit. With the support of his wife, daughters, and caregivers, he was able to spend his final years at home.

Mark is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jo; his daughters, Sophie Scardaci (Dennis) and Amy Harmon (Cyrus); grandchildren Celeste & Gavin Kurnik, and Olivia & Mark Harmon; his brother Roger (Emagene); his sister-in-law Boo Boero; and many beloved nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Wanda Boero and his brother Gary.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marin Art and Garden Center. Friends and family are invited to gather, remember, and raise a glass in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory by spending time outdoors-casting a line, taking a walk, or enjoying a view with loved ones. He would've loved that.

I was a long time patient and family friend of Mark´s and I will never forget his extraordinary kindness to me when I was hit in the mouth by a golf ball over the weekend. My front tooth broke and I had to have stitches. I was very scared. I had a friend who was with me call Mark`s exchange and he was playing tennis. His wife taking the call and realizing the urgency drove over to where Mark was and once Mark heard, he immediately met me at the office. He took one look at the swelling and the tooth and said there´s nothing that could be done for now -he was still in his tennis gear! Hearing his words, calmed me and gave me peace for which I am so grateful. Mark, I hope now that you have peace and I hope that for your family as well -forever grateful -Mona Sabuco

I was a Cow Mountain and Trail Blazer with Mark, Gary and Ed. I can recall some very animated Pedro games over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I always enjoyed time spent with Mark.
