In memory of
William K. Atkinson
September 28, 2020
Can’t believe Mark passed away. And can’t believe I didn’t know until today.
Mark and I began our “hospital administration” experiences together in the Humana Mid-South region right after graduate school. He was training in Augusta and I was training in Greensboro, NC. We both reported to Humana’s then “Mid-South Region” In Mobile, Alabama.
Mark attended my and my wife‘s (Allison) wedding in NC many years ago now.
Mark and I lost track of each other after my Humana assignments moved me to CEO roles in Texas and then Colorado. Then, years later I returned to NC as president of hospitals here.
Mark was a very good man and I thought the world of him. He was smart, talented and had a gift for healthcare and business leadership and operations.
Thought of his at 4am this morning and decided to track him down and say hello. But, shocked to find that he passed so young.
Certainly saying a prayer for Mark - and his family - right now (September 28, 2020).
See you on the other side, brother. Sorry we lost track of each other over the years and, for sure, that you passed away so early.

I am so sad to hear of this. Mark was one day older than me and he teased me in high school that he was "older than me." I will always remember Mark for being such a great athlete, sweet friend, and great dance partner. I have continued to think of him from time to time through the years. And that won't change now. Rest in Peace Mark. Condolences to your loved ones. Cheryl Stefanovicz.
