Mark D. Bystrek

Can't believe it's been 10 years. I always remember what a sweet likeable kid he was. We always enjoyed having him at our house when he hung out with Austin which was quite often during their late middle school and early high school years. Thinking of his family today. Kathy

I've known Mark thru his father. He was a remarkable young man with a big heart. Had a great attitude and everyone that met him loved him. I can't say I understand the loss cause I've never lost a child but I can only imagine what the family goes thru every day without him.

I only knew Mark from the years of coaching in youth football but what I remember is a tough kid who played with all of his heart. One story that I will always remember about Mark was one game we were short players and we pulled him out of the parking lot to play a game. Gave him a uniform and started him at left offensive guard. He didn't know the plays but told him to go knock the crap out of the guy in front of you. Mark was half the size of everyone on the line but he put everything he had into it and we won the game. That memory is something that I will always cherish.

Mark, you are with the angels now.

Wanna share a story about Mark Bystrek for you guys.

I was in Mr. Lynam's Team Sports class. I think I was a Senior.. I honestly didn't really have a care in the world for the class, and neither did anybody else in the class. We didn't put out the best of our abilities or anything like that. Just filling the requirement. Mark was a big exception. He pushed himself and threw himself at everything he did. We were doing the Presidential fitness challenge one day. Nobody was really pushing for it, since the test didnt really count for much. Then the pushup portion came. We lined up in one big group, and kept going until we had to stop. We lost most of the group around a minute in. There was one person left, and that was Mark. He was on his 99th pushup, and was straining to push out more. I just vividly remember the pain and the strain that he appeared to be going through, and watching him push so much that I started to hurt just watching him. I can't remember his exact number, but I know it was over 120 good Marine style pushups. That was my best memory of Mark, and he visually taught me a lesson in mental toughness and pushing your body far beyond what it's capable of and throwing yourself at every challenge with 110% of your ability. I'll never forget watching him on the gym floor by himself pushing when everyone else quit. I wasn't very good friends with Mark, but he inspired me and left an image that I have kept for the past 2 years. God bless

He helped us in sending materials to support schools and mission clinics run by our missionaries in remote villages of the nothern Nigeria several years ago. I have always prayed for him and he will be missed.Please do not allow sorrow to overwhelem you. Mark did many good things of which our school children in Africa are beneficiaries of his kindness.
