Friendly guy! We had a lot of fun blitz games together! When the 4 time women's world chess champion came to Jacksonville in the mid 80's to do a chess simul against 28 players, Mark and i handed her 2 of her 3 losses. I'll miss him! Dave Lamb

Mark and I had some great games of chess..................he was so young to leave us and I am so saddened......one of those people who haunt your memory down thru the years in a good way, in a glowing way..........such is the friends we make in chess and other experiences . He was respectful and polite at the board.........he was kind when he won and filled with humility when he lost........bespoke a wonderful character and family I am sure. We were battlers thru the C, B and A ratings............his memory is a very pleasant one, like a good book you pick up again..
I hope the best for his family and friends, prayers to all

Met and played Mark at a few Chess Tournaments back in the 80's . He was a very down to Earth type of guy.Say hello to Morphy for me.

When I first moved away from home at age 17, I shared an apartment with Mark and we remained close friends for years. I always appreciated his perspective and wit, as well as the many times he encouraged me to take back a lousy chess move. Though I hadn't seen Mark in years, I always thought we might bump into one another again. Yet here I am saying goodbye. We'll all miss you Mark.

My fondest memory of you was my 16th birthday party. Although it's been many years since I saw you last, I've considered you a friend always. May you rest in peace...

Mark was always a welcome addition to the tri-annual Englert family reunions. His company was pleasant and conversation interesting. One of the early reunions I remember a girlfriend of mine and he stayed up most of the night talking philosophy and such. Rest well Mark in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior until we are all reunited one day in paradise. Teresa Wilson

Mark, you were always friendly and considerate to many at work. I will miss you. Say hello to Danny for me and have a good laugh over one of his many jokes. Aloha!

I'm Free
Don't greive for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things, I too, will miss
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me;
God wanted me now, He set me free.

I want to express my sympathy to all the brothers & sisters, but expecially to Sally, Mark's loving mother.
The obituary was really well done. Even though I hadn't kept in touch with the family in recent years, I had a complete picture of Mark's life through the words that you wrote.
I'll see you Monday evening.

Mark was a great guy. Always the contrarian at DeSales. He got me interested in guitar and journalism. Mark had unusual wit and zest for life. A truly multi-talented man.
