Mark Espinal Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 6, 2024.
Mark Espinal, beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, son and brother, passed away on December 20, 2023, at the age of 63. He died from corticobasal degeneration, a very rare and aggressive form of Parkinson's. He was predeceased by his father, Frank. Mark is survived by his wife, Karen Gargan, his daughter Marie Espinal (Tyler), mother Gloria, brother Steven, stepchildren, Chelsea Cline (Adam) and Nick Gargan, grandchildren, Lily, Callahan, and Michaela, siblings-in-law Cheryl Egerdahl, Kelly Moore (Dave), and Dan Curtin, and loving nieces and nephews.

Mark graduated from CSUS with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for the State of California for over 32 years, primarily at the State Controller's Office, where he made many friends. He retired five years ago.

Mark was a great man, very thoughtful, quiet, kind, funny, and loved by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. A very special thank you to the caregivers and professionals, and especially brother Dan, who provided wonderful, loving care to him and provided support and respite for Karen. A Celebration of Life will be held.

I just found out about Mark and am shocked. I worked with him at the SCO for many years and I considered him a good friend. I am deeply saddened. He was such a great person and was such a pleasure to work with. He was always smiling and was an inspiration with things weren't going so well. He will be missed for sure. My condolences to Karen, Marie, and the rest of his family, your in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Mark - Heaven received another beautiful angel for sure.

I worked with and for Mark for about 20 years at SCO. He was a genuine person who made it easy to call him friend. He was a great mentor as manager. We also shared many conversations about music once we found out we both liked Joe Bonamassa. Soar now that you have your wings..

He was a great human being and a very helpful and friendly person. It's a great shock to know that he is not with us anymore but we know he is in safe hands away from pain and meseries. May his soul rest in peace. Mark will be missed dearly.
