Mark Fidler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2025.
Mark William Fidler, of Denton, Texas, passed away on July 29, 2025, after a 5 1/2-year battle with cancer. He faced his illness with strength, resilience, and unwavering determination.

He was born on December 12, 1952, to Billy and Helen Fidler in Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1971 and received a degree in Accounting from the University of Iowa in 1975.

Mark is survived by his wife, Dana, of the home, ; sons Jacob Fidler of Frisco, TX, and Taylor Fidler (Jennifer) of Lubbock, TX, granddaughters Elayne and Jessie Fidler; and sisters Julie Dixon (Dennis) and Jane Smith (Kevin). He also leaves behind nieces, a nephew, and several cousins.

Mark enjoyed sports from an early age and was a talented baseball, basketball, and tennis player, competing in men's tennis tournaments as a teenager. His love of sports continued throughout his life, and he became an avid Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys fan. He somewhat begrudgingly followed the Kansas City Chiefs to appease his wife-though if games conflicted, the Cowboys always took priority.

Mark's career in the healthcare I.T. field spanned several decades. After moving to Denver and then Dallas in the early 1990s, he launched his executive recruiting company, Healthcare Connections. He developed and maintained hundreds of professional relationships and was successful in placing many candidates into roles through those connections.

Family was most important to Mark. He passed on his love of travel to both sons, and the family enjoyed many wonderful vacations and ski weekends in the mountains of Colorado. He was present at every event, practice, play, or game involving his sons and coached Jacob in baseball for many years. He adored his granddaughters and attended their School of Rock performances whenever he could. He loved them dearly.

Mark was also a dedicated volunteer for the City of Southlake, Texas, where he lived from 1995 to 2009. He launched the city's Citizens on Patrol group and served as its first chairman.

Earlier this year, Mark chose to have a "living" Celebration of Life in lieu of funeral services. He was able to spend time with old and new friends, which was deeply meaningful to him. Mark had bracelets made for his family inscribed with the words, "I can only imagine a time when we walk side by side again." A fitting tribute to a remarkable life well lived.

While our hearts are broken, we are grateful that he is free of pain and walking among the angels.

I am so sorry to hear about Mark´s passing. I got to know him and his wonderful family through volunteering in Southlake. He was a great guy who cared so much about his family and community. Thinking of Dana, Taylor and Jacob.

Mark was one of the nicest guys I have ever known. I have known him for many years and enjoyed his sense of humor enormously. He could tell the best and funniest stories.

My prayers and best wishes go out to Mark´s family. It is difficult to remember Mark is at peace but I hope your healing goes well as Mark would wish for you.

We have known Mark a long time, back to grade school days. We have many wonderful memories of him and extend our deepest sympathy to Dana and his sons and grand daughters and sisters. He is indeed flying with the angels!

I have known Mark since before he & Dana were "a couple". I was privileged to watch their love for each other bloom into a romance, a marriage, a family. He was one of "the good guys" and will be missed.
