Mark Allan Gesswein

Mark Allen Gesswein, born January 31, 1980, left this world too soon, but the vibrant colors of his life will forever paint our memories. Mark was a true Renaissance man – compassionate, generous, witty, and deeply loyal. He possessed a photographic memory and an insatiable curiosity, mastering any craft he set his hands to, from painting and design to construction and furniture restoration. His artistry wasn't confined to canvas; it infused every aspect of his life, whether he was building a house, refurbishing a motorcycle, or simply grilling a meal for his family.

For Mark, family was everything. His daughters, Cheyenne and Neveah, were the lights of his life, and his love for his wife, Lucia, shone brightly. He cherished his sisters, Crystal and Chelsie, and held a deep love for his mother, Diane. He admired his father and Uncle Tracy, seeing them as heroes. Mark's compassion extended beyond the human realm, his gentle spirit resonating with all animals.

Mark found joy in the simple pleasures: the thrill of a four-wheeler adventure, the quiet peace of fishing, the rhythmic paddling of a canoe, the warmth of the Florida sun on his skin. He appreciated the full spectrum of colors, reflecting his artistic soul, but red and black held a special significance. We remember him through the vibrant hues of a sunset, the deep blues and greens of the ocean he loved, and the playful energy of butterflies.

For me, Mark was more than just a brother; he was my hero. Six years my senior, he changed my diapers, taught me to walk, read, and ride a bike. He soothed my hurts with a kiss. When he moved to Florida, a piece of my heart went with him. In 2007, I brought him back to Illinois, and we became a family again. He built a life here, a family here, and though he's gone, his beautiful daughter, Neveah, remains, a living reminder of his love and spirit. I promise to cherish her, guide her, and keep Mark's memory alive in her heart. Though my heart breaks, I know he is at peace, his spirit soaring free, watching over us with a smile. We will miss you, Mark.
