I was saddened to hear of Mark's passing but joyful to know that his faith in Jesus Christ has promoted him to heaven! We'll meet again. Mark and I both worked for AC Sparkplug then Delphi Engineering where our activities crossed paths every so often. He was very technology oriented and would tell me about his current project(s). May God be a source of comfort and strength to his family during this time of sorrow.

I was Mark´s supervisor at Delphi for a number of years. Mark was a creative problem solver and was a named inventor on 22 patents by my count. We had many lively discussions around the projects we were tasked with delivering, from Non-thermal Plasma to NOx Catalysts. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Great times with Mark, circa 1990.

Picture 1: I took this picture of Mark & Cyndi, Joshua and Adam about 1990 (I think Joshua was 4, Adam was 2) on our flight to Denver, CO. Mark and I were assigned to test vehicles at high altitudes and this time his family came along. Mark, always attentive to his family, is reading a book to Joshua. Cyndi and Adam were plum tuckered out! I was single at the time and always enjoyed hanging out with such a loving family

Picture 2: This was one of our Corvette ZR-1 test cars in Colorado: Mark had loaded test equipment into the rear hatch and attached thermocouples to the catalytic converters in the engine compartment. We were proud to be testing something special: the highest-performance Corvette that GM had ever made! I believe it was on this trip that a Corvette enthusiast spotted our car on the roads (ZR-1 had extra-wide rear end) and kept trying to flag us down. He followed us until we reached the GM facility "Denver Emissions Lab." He begged us to open the engine compartment so he could see it but we could not do that. LOL. He had to wait another year until GM was ready to show it to the public.

Picture 3: I think this was during the same Corvette test trip, possibly at the top of Mt. Evans (14,000 feet). After intensive days of testing, Mark and I took a breather to enjoy the scenery. Note: I might have been de-stressing after the drive up the winding road (no guardrail!) and Mark driving quite a bit faster than I liked. The more I yelled for him to slow down, the harder he laughed!

I met Mark Hemingway in 1988 at AC Spark Plug. My first task was to learn the job (vehicle systems work to validate catalytic converter durability) by working closely with him. Mark´s welcoming smile, humble attitude and creative, teaching approach to technical details made it a great experience. I soon learned Mark had specific skills for our exhaust systems work, beyond anyone else around. His patience and good humor while I was learning made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in learning a lot, and I came to respect him greatly. We had some UNFORGETTABLE test trips (how about driving the yet-to-be-introduced to the public Corvette ZR-1 with Lotus engine, up 14,000 feet to the top of Mt. Evans in Colorado, to validate high altitude calibration details?) To a car nut like me, my mind was blown. And to have that experience with a man of integrity like Mark made it all the better.

Mark clearly loved his Maker and his wife and his children above all else, and his life showed it both in public and in private.

My sympathies go out to all his family, with prayers for their comfort.
