Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Jacob and Mary (Root) Herr.
His wife, Katherine E. (Hall) Herr survives. His first wife, Erma (Rutt) Herr, died in 1961.
He worked as an executive in the trucking industry for most of his career. Later, he served for many years as the Business Manager for High Point Baptist Chapel, where he was a member. After that, he worked for the Horning Farm Agency, where he continued to work faithfully until his 92nd birthday.
In his 30s (1952-1953), he served as the youngest ever Rotary District #79 Governor.
While in the trucking business, he was recognized by Ripley's Believe it or Not in 1950 for signing his name a remarkable 1,474 times in a single financial transaction.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children: Mark R. Herr of Endicott, NY; Jean Louise Poehlmann of Schwenksville; Rebecca Sue Gansauer of Lewes, DE; and Jay G. Herr of Morgantown; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a brother, Paul R. Herr of East Petersburg.
Preceding him in death are 3 younger brothers: Robert, Jacob and Glenn Herr.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
