Ever since the Internet I have tried to find you, dear old friend. I am so sorry I am too late.In 1959 my family moved to Amsterdam so did my family. We lived in the same apartment building; we became fast friends as did our parents. We moved to Luxembourg a year later but my parents stopped in Amsterdam in the 80´s to see your parents on the way back to Texas from Saudi Arabia. It was then my mother told me you were a soccer player. Alas, I think that might be why I could never find you. My oldest sister Paula who you were closest to passed away in 2016. I hope you two are reunited. Moge je rusten in de eeuwige vrede, lieve vriend

Hi Mark, i met you in 2005. You liked me a bit more because I was Dutch, from Holland. The country Gram Parsons fell in love with. I enjoyed the time there with you and your dear friend.
I'll never forget the moment there was a car crash just outside the hostel. Because of the moment I turned the music softer. You turned it back on. "Never put the music down, whatever happens".
I bet you were right.
Rest well my dear friend.
All the love from Patrick from Holland

R.I.P Mark.

Devestated to hear of Marks passing. I stayed at Gram's Place in 2005 for a few days whilst travelling in the U.S. Enjoyed a few drinks with Mark on those nights, sat by the hot tub. Recently been reminiscing about my travels and sad to come across this tragic event.

I stayed at Grams Place back in February 2007 with a few friends, introducing him to British comedy was always a funny experience. When I learned of Marks passing it nearly broke my heart, one of the nicest and most inspirational guys i've ever had the pleasure to have met. He would always help his fellow person no matter how trivial the matter. Hope he's up there with Gram, living by his one rule. Never turn the music off.

Life will never be the same, the past is lived through the memories I try to capture and save, They say hindsight is 20/20 THEY are correct. to say I miss my Brother does not begin to say what I feel, I feel empty sometimes, like that ship with out a ruter, writing about the loss of my brother who I took for granted . I always expected him to be there.....and this was not to be. I have learned many things since I started my life here at Grams Place in May of 08, most of all I have learned the life Mark had and of the people who loved him. I will ask that those of you out there with siblings...please get close to them and know them, love them and do not loose sight of what they mean to you. Do this while you can and do it the best you can. Mark will always be close to my daily thoughts, I thank God for the "Porch Pickers" and all the other music Mark left to us, I listen to it frequently and always will. I Love you Brother, you will never be forgotten and will always be loved.

Hey Mark(12),
That same day, the weirdiest things happaned in my life,so much that in the last 3 weeks, before i was aware of your final destination,i was trying very hard to understand and give a sens to what i was experiencing...
On that same night on the 4th of november,i felt like i was transported to the other side of galaxy and took a picture.I know, now, that it was you.For the last 3 weeks i kept saying everybody that i died that night and reborned!I went as far as saying that i problebly turned 30yrs old that night cause i had 3 months of pregnency 30 years ago that day!
it's only 3weeks later that i was put in knowledge of the situation.
Mark,as i beleive in the spirit of the Universe, i Know we'll always be connected. You are the best friend i ever had and perhaps the one i'll ever have.LOVE julien(13)

Mark,
I will not forget when we shared the dreams we had for ourselves over a decade ago. I remember when you first got a newspaper article done on Gram's place and you told me that was your "Academy Award".
Thank you for encouraging my dreams as well. I will miss you not being there. My prayers and condolences to Mark's family and freinds. He will be missed!

I am really going to miss you at the Neiborhood reunion this year and I speak for all of us (you know who we are). It was really great to see and hear you, Allen, Tommy and the rest of the players last year.
Rest in peace my dear friend and thanks for preserving the spirit of the neiborhood.
And may Gram bless you when you meet.

My deepest sympathy to Mark's family and friends:
Life’s design, unknown to us, a
tapestry woven with artistic care;
seems torn and tattered since our
loved one yielded this life to despair.
Not able to bear the pain that lay
cumbersome on their mind and soul;
we are left with ache of stricken grief
and sweet memories to console.
RIP Marcus!

My dear friend, fellow traveler, speaker of tongues, singer of songs, where, oh where have you gone? To leave us so bereft and go on alone, beyond the pale, so close, yet so very far away: they must have promised you a guitar that never needs tuning!
Memories of you laughing in the moonlit courtyard, or perched happily in the crowsnest, those kind, knowing eyes, that brilliant mind and all those conversations that never really ended, just put on "pause" till we met again...these will help keep some of the sadness at bay.
Yet, my heart hurts and my mind/soul, struggles, more like rages, against this whole scenario. Who'll tell me, now, when it's time to go?
Your family, all of us, from all over the world, will never forget, never stop loving or missing you, and never, ever, stop the music.

To Marks Family, This is a very sad time, but a time you can rejoice and know he is now singing in heaven. I am an old friend of his from the Ambassador Baptist days. Mark loved the Lord and sang with Pete and Tommy for Jesus. We had so many good times in the mountains. I saw snow for the 1st time with Mark and the gang. That was 33 yrs ago. Thru Tommy I cleaned the Hostel for a few months this year, and so glad I got to see him once more. Grams Place is one of a kind, just like Mark. Luv Ya Mark, When I see you again, we'll both be in heaven with Jesus.

Gram's Place is an oasis in Tampa. Who creates such a beautiful place but someone with a genuine, underlying optimism about society and humanity. It's a love he takes with him in death, but one he shared with those who knew him, whether guest or friend or both. Tampa needed Mark Holland. The city is dimmer in his absence. My deepest hope is that the tragedy of his death is always eclipsed by the beauty of his life and the oasis he created in Tampa Heights. Farewell, Mark. I wanted just one more conversation with you. But Gram Parsons is not forgotten and neither will you be.

This
is such sad news. I'm sorry Mark felt that this was the answer for him. I had high hopes for Mark after his victory over those zoning issues. Mark turned me on to so much music and spent hours on the phone educating me about Gram's music and talking to me about the Gram Parsons Memorial Foundation and Cosmic American Music News.I met him in the early 90s when he came through Birmingham on his way to Nashville when Gram got a star on the now defunct Walk of Stars. Mark spent his life sharing, perpetuating, and keeping the flame of Gram's music alive. He always said the only thing that mattered was the music. I last had contact with him in the midst of those zoning problems and told him my thoughts were with him, thinking that I would finally get down to Gram's Place. I wish I'd taken the time to go down there now and support him in his efforts. I hope that Gram's Place stays open and stays true to Mark's unfaltering vision. He spent much of his life doing what he loved to do, no matter how hard it was at times. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and all of those
who loved him. He will be missed.

Thank you for everything you did for all of us. You will not be forgotten. I hope your Hostel lives on. I know how much you loved it...

Condolences to family and friends. I visited Mark's place in 1983 for the GPMF Gathering he organized, have always wanted to return and sing and play music. Thanks to Mark and may his death be the particle, and his afterlife a continuation of the wave of his life of sharing his love for the music.
