Mark Ratner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 4 to Aug. 5, 2018.
Mark H. Ratner October 18, 1932 - July 25, 2018 San Diego Our dear father, grandfather and friend left us the morning of July 25th. Mark was home surrounded by his family as he lost his battle with lung disease. Mark was born in Chicago in 1932 to Rae & Milton Ratner. After graduating from New Trier High School, he entered the US Army serving as a Field Medic in the Korean War. When he returned home, Mark met and married Lynne Kenny. They had two children, Adam and Penni. Mark and Lynne relocated to San Diego in 1959 where he began his career in the automotive industry. Mark and two partners formed Global Automotive Industries building the company to an over 60 location automotive business. After selling his interest in the company, Mark went on to own and operate Dualtone Automotive in Pacific Beach. Mark was an investor, philanthropist, humanitarian and lover of animals. He had a passion for travel, visiting dozens of foreign countries. Whether home in the U.S., or traveling to Europe, China, Iran, Russia, or India, he sought and enjoyed every opportunity to connect with and get to know the people he met. Mark leaves behind his sister, Donna Greenberg, his son, Adam Ratner and Adam's wife Annick Le Gall, his daughter Penni Ratner and her husband Gregg Scharin. Mark leaves his first daughter, Margaret Casey and her husband Mel Winer of Chicago. Mark also leaves his dear friend and companion Patricia Zamary. Mark had an incredible relationship with his grandchildren, who were so special to him, Aaron R. Dubin, Alyssa R. Dubin, and Emma R. Ratner. They will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank the incredible medical team and staff at UCSD for their compassionate care of Mark.

Time heals all wounds but this wound is healing much more slowly. Grief is no more than love trapped inside your body with no where to go. We miss Mark because we knew as long as he was around, everything was going to be okay. RIP to a true Soldier.

Mark was an incredible friend and truly a gift to all the people he touched. His smile and energy will be missed. I loved having coffee with him and thankful he took such great care of my car. He will be dearly missed, but i have 39 years of memories that I cherish. You are now one of G-d's angels and will be forever endeared. Blessing to Penni and Adam and the grandkids. Thank you for blessing me with your dad's friendship.

As most of us know we only have a few chances to call someone our friend. The special people that come to help no matter where or when. Mark was my special friend and I will miss him every day I have left. God Bless..................Kim Beu
