Mark Edward Sawyer

Mark Sawyer, 72, of Vancouver, Washington passed away on September 28, 2023.

He was born in Vancouver on February 19, 1951 to Gordan and Eileen Sawyer. As a child, Mark loved playing in the Washougal river and fishing with his sister, Claudia. He also loved trips to Alaska to visit family. Mark attended Fort Vancouver High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served until 1971. Mark worked at the Camas Paper Mill and was a proud member of the AWPPW Local 5 union. He retired after 40 years of service.

Mark was a car enthusiast his entire life. He owned many different cars over the years and loved to work on engines. Known for his skills as a mechanic, Mark applied those skills at work and home, even helping his son to rebuild his first car's engine. When children and grandchildren would point out and ask about a certain car, Mark could easily identify each and every one of them. He'd many times follow that with the proud acknowledgment of having owned one.

Spending time at the Pacific Coast, and Long Beach in particular, was one of Mark's favorite pastimes throughout his life. Mark also loved Mexican food and peanut butter milkshakes. His grandchildren knew they could count on getting a cook-cook (cookie) from grandpa.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Gordan Sawyer, mother Eileen Fisher Sawyer, stepfather Harley Rhode and first wife Judy Jensen. Mark is survived by wife Janet Sawyer, sister Claudia Duback, children Shannon Lawrence (George), TJ Fleming (Jenna), Skye Sawyer (Jennifer), Makenzie Pyles (Devin), Nicolas Robbins (Brandi), Breanna Robbins, Rayford Thompson Jr. and 11 grandchildren.

A celebration of life is being held on Sunday, October 29th from 12:00 - 4:00 pm. It is being held at the AWPPW Local 5 hall at 514 NE Dallas Camas, Washington 98607.
