My family and I would like to offer condolences to the Schroeder family. After searching for a doctor who would lisetn to me and have a great "bedside manner" I had the pleasure of finding Dr. Schroeder. After meeting him, I immediately referred to him as a friend. He had a caring and gentle way about him. I felt like he listened to me and cared what I had to say about my body. He will be missed. God Bless You Dr. Schroeder. You made a difference and will be missed!

To the Family of Dr. Mark Schroeder:

My first appointment with Dr. Schroeder was in September 2007. He was so thorough and patient and I was happy to have found a doctor who took "time" with me.
On several return visits, Dr. Schroeder was not at his practice and the staff could not give specific information. Some 6 months later, there was a letter posted on the front desk from Dr. Schroeder. He had returned part-time, explained his condition, and thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
I started to see Dr. Schroeder again, and the last time I saw him, on April 23rd, 2009, I had no idea that would be the last time I saw him alive. Although he was extremely frail, he was still just as thorough and caring as ever.
Early this morning, I received a phone call from my Pharmacy explaining that they would call the doctor's office and get another authorization for the prescription refill that I had phoned in earlier today as Dr. Schroeder had passed away.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of this compassionate doctor. My heart goes out to the family of this wonderful, dedicated man who courageously fought his battle to the very end.

Like Nizam and James, I was Mark's classmate at MCV. I loved working with Mark. He had the most generous, gentle spirit and the kindest smile. Reading all the entries so far from patients who were fortunate enough to have him as their doctor I'm not at all surprised at the descriptions of his compassionate, caring style. He was compassionate in all he did. He must have been an incredible physician.

I'm so very saddened to learn about Mark's passing. I wanted to share a song that I found comforting when my brother in law passed away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv3mOPCH6bs

My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I went to Medical School with Mark. It is with a lamenting heart that I write these lines for his beloved family. His genuine generosity, his luminous countenance, unwavering faith, and angelic character will forever be missed. Here is a prayer I would like to share:
"O Lord, glorify his station, shelter him under the pavilion of Thy supreme mercy, cause him to enter Thy glorious paradise, and perpetuate his existence in Thine exalted rose garden, that he may plunge into the sea of light in the world of mysteries."

I moved from Mechanicsville to Hopewell in 2005 and needed a doctor close by. I had never heard of Dr.Schroeder when I lived in Mechanicsville. Then my new husband had told me about Dr. Schroeder. Making that first appointment was one of the best choices I ever made. He was the best doctor I ever had. No one will ever be able to compare to him. He always took his time, made you feel comfortable, like you were the only patient he had. He went out of his way to help you. Always made jokes with our kids to make them feel at ease. And always talked about how great his kids were. He was a very proud father. Our deepest condolences to his family and his family at Ironbridge Family Medical Center. This man will do a wonderful job as one of GODS healers. God Bless You Dr. Schroeder

To the entire family:
Dr. Schroeder was my son's doctor at Ironbridge. We did not know he was sick. He was the most thorough and honest doctor my son and I have come across. We enjoyed going to see him. We would talk about our families and he would always glow when he talked about his. We have sons the same age (10) & they(Mark & my son) share a birthdate. We will miss Dr. Schroeder in so many ways. He has been a blessing to my family. Thank you for letting him be a part of our lives. I will pray for your entire family and know that God is up high looking down low. Keep all of your memories close to your hearts where his spirit lives.

I never saw Dr.Schroeder b4 he got sick but I did see him qiet a few times after that. Not only was he a good doctor and had very good bedside manners he was a real trooper and a fighter......He will be missed by so many.May GOD be with his family and friends in their time of sorrow.......

Jazmin Ronquillo

May 14, 2009

I need to start off by saying Dr. Shroeder was one of the greatest men I have ever known. He was mine and my families doctor. I have seen a lot of doctors in my life time, but by far he was my favorite. He always had jokes to tell and always had the time to explain something if I didn't understand it. Even when I could tell that his disease was wearing him out physically he still pulled the courage and energy together to try to make me laugh. I often would come in there crying with all my medical issues and he would tell me a knock, knock joke that his son told him. Now I see how selfish I had been. He's battle something more severe and I'm the one crying! But it goes to show that he was a very homble man. To have to sit through everyone elses agany, when he himself was fighting. He will truely be missed. I cried, my mother cried and my family is truely sending your family the love and condoleces that you all deserve. He was loved by many and even in death he will still be loved. The legacy that he left to his wife, children and family, is one that everone wishes to leave. He was an honorable man, a homble man and he loved to help and heal others. What a legacy to leave! We will love you and miss you always.

Dr. Schroeder will be dearly missed. His sincere, compassionate, and concerned approach to caring for his patients will always be remembered. His ability to "listen" to people's concerns, so rare these days, was one of his biggest virtues. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dr. Schroeder had only just become my physician and I had commented to my friends and even recommended him to others. He was a natural as a doctor and I hope you know how much it means when you find a doctor you can really discuss your health with and feel satisfied. I'm so glad he got to make a difference in my life and realize his dream. Go doc! Please know how much we all feel your sorrow!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The world has lost yet another one of its most kind and gentle souls...but not before his leaving his imprint of hope on others. He dared to pursue a dream...HIS dream; as well as encouraged others to pursue theirs as well. I was there during his "Tredegar Years" and, although I did not know him well; I was privileged to witness the beginning of his quiet transformation from businessman to physician. He affected many more than he could have POSSIBLY realized. My sincere condolences to the family. He was a great guy...but of course, you already knew that. Just wanted to let you know that others knew it too.
