Mark Henry Sullivan:

April 4, 1961 - November 14, 2022

Son of William B. and Joyce A. (Rogers) Sullivan.

Mark died unexpectedly near his home in Lisbon on Monday November 14.

Tragically he was struck by a train in an heroic attempt to save the lives of his dogs Emmalea and Piper.

Unfortunately Mark and Emmalea did not survive the accident, Emmalea was buried on their property, Marks internment will be private. Piper will have to spend some time at the Pieper Olson Animal Hospital in Middletown but is expected to make a full recovery

An avid outdoorsman, hunter, hiker and lover of all things woodies!

An Eagle Scout of Troop 4 Norwich. He attend the National BSA Jamboree in 1977.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Norwichtown, his involvements included: The Youth Fellowship, singing in the choir, Christmas Pageants, Fairs and played on the softball team, inducted into the Church League Hall of Fame in 1990.

He Graduated from the Norwich Free Academy 1979.

He attended Paul Smiths College in Upstate New York Graduating with a Bachelors Degree of Forestry in 1984.

He earned his Masters degree in Environmental Science from the University of Connecticut 1993

He started his own business in the early 1990's-

'Mark H. Sullivan Land Surveying and Environmental Consulting.'

For the pass 9 years he was also employed by the State of Connecticut as a District I Senior Surveyor.

He was a past board member for the Lisbon inland's and wetland committee.

Dr Dirt loved his work. He gave due diligence and pride to all his business dealings. He loved surveying as it afforded him opportunities to walk in the woods, to chat with land owners, farmers or the old timers at the local breakfast nook, listening to stories of their families and properties, and discovering the history in Eastern Ct. Stonewalls, cemetery's, boundary markers and all things dirt and rock!

He loved to read, especially about history, He loved sports, his Redsox and Bruins, he had a passion for Fantasy Football, and was also a member of the Tuckerbung Association and he will be greatly missed by the membership of both.

He lived life with a positive attitude, a smile on his face and time for a good story (given or gotten!)

He met the love of his life and "Partner in Boots", Denise, and together with their much adored four legged companions, spent many years camping & hiking trails, mountains, valley's and ravines of the beautiful New England landscape. They also enjoyed canoeing and swimming on the river by their beautiful home in Lisbon.

He is survived by his Love & Partner Denise Chapman and their dog Piper, also his Parents William and Joyce Sullivan, Mother-in-Law- Lorraine Chapman, Brother Bruce and Wife Kim, Sister-in-law- Fran Chapman, Sister-in-law- Diana Chapman and Ed Lex, Sister-in-law Dawn Chapman, Niece Shealyn and Husband Brendan, (Jameson & Bailey). Niece Stacey Pierce & Fianc? Ray Pembrose.

His extended family members: sister Oksana & Alex (Sofia, Danny, Katrina), Sister Sandi (Tyler & David), and Shaina & Adam Bouge (Abel)

His dearest close cousins, Scott, Leisha, Matthew and Brendon.

He was predeceased by a Nephew Craig. Father-in-law Ray Chapman, Brother-in-Law Dan Chapman, Brother-in-Law Bill Pierce.

There will be a Christian Church Service at the First Congregational Church in Norwichtown, 81 East Town St. On Saturday November 26th at 3pm. A coffee hour fellowship will follow in the hall next to the church.

A Celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

I will always remember the many, many kind deeds that Mark did for my parents on so many occasions. I also will remember how kind he was to me and my siblings when my parents moved out and we prepared the house to be sold. He was as kind of a person as one will ever meet and he is missed.

Hi Denise , I'm so sorry to have just learnt about the tragic passing of your dear loved one . Mark actually did some work for my parents awhile back . I know there are no words I could use to lessen your pain but just know there are still family , friends and aquantices who will help , don't be afraid to reach out past those avenues . SBHS 1976 .
