Mark Donald Trewartha, age 64, went home to heaven on December 23, 2024, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. Mark was born at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN to Donald and Carol Trewartha. Mark was baptized and confirmed at Christ the King Lutheran Church, in
Bloomington, MN. He attended River Ridge Elementary School (1st-6th grade), Portland Jr. High School (7th-9th), and in 1978, he graduated from John F. Kennedy Sr. High, in
Bloomington, MN. Mark went on to graduate from Aviation Technical School in Winona, MN in 1982 where he received his Airframe and Power Plant (A and P License) under the FAA.
Mark started working as a mechanic at Republic Airlines in 1984. Republic Airlines was bought by Northwest Airlines and Northwest Airlines was later bought by Delta. During these acquisitions, Mark continued to work for them as a Mechanic, an Inspector, and as a Production Planner. Later in his career, Mark worked at Aircraft Demolition, recycling airplane parts and from there went to work at Compass Airlines as a Production Planner, where he retired in 2019.
Growing up, Mark played baseball and football as well as chess in school and loved playing pinball at Cedar Lanes Bowling. His passion for softball continued throughout his life - often playing 3 nights a week on co-ed and men's leagues. If there was a ballfield, Mark played on it. He also played volleyball and broomball for a number of years. Mark loved to build things, work on cars, and computers, eventually creating Logical Systems, creating custom-built computers. Mark loved dogs, beginning with his childhood dogs, Prancer and Chipper, and through the years, Shena, Bonnie, Brooke and Tucker.
Mark and Jenny met in 1994 and in 1995 Mark proposed to Jenny at a Bonnie Raitt concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. They were married on April 10th, 1999, at Nokomis Heights Church in Minneapolis. They were happily married, blending their children: Mark's sons, Michael and Daniel, and Jenny's children, Emma and Samuel into a beautiful family. Mark and Jenny made their home in Minneapolis, near Lake Nokomis, eventually moving to Bloomington in 2013.
There are so many wonderful memories of Mark as a father and husband. There were many nights spent at the ball fields watching Mark play ball while the kids played ditch, evenings playing cards and board games with a fire in the fireplace, family pinball competitions, days spent working on cars, hikes down to Tom's Popcorn Shop, bike rides around the lakes, and ski trips to Colorado to visit family. There were a number of vacations spent at cabins with family, trips to Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, New York, Oregon, and Washington to name a few. And while Mark clearly loved to have fun, he lived his life well - he was kind, generous, supportive, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
In 2018, Mark was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease. And while this disease ravages the brain, Mark did not let this disease define him. He never complained, he maintained his gentle demeanor and continued with his faith in Jesus. We have witnessed God's hand in this story. Jesus has consistently gone before us on this journey, clearing paths forward for Mark, Jenny and the family. And it is in this that we give thanks, and we praise God for all that He has done. God is good.
Mark loved his family deeply and family always came first. He is survived by his wife, Jenny, children Michael (Kate) Trewartha, Daniel (Ashlea) Trewartha, Emma (Ted) Zwieg, and Sam (Rachel) Lee, grandchildren, Henley and Kaylee Zwieg, Jonathan and James Lee, and Miles Trewartha, as well as his sister, Julie (Rick) Saffrin, and brother, Steve (Debbie) Trewartha.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Donald, and mother, Carol.
Funeral Service will be held at FaithPoint Lutheran Church in New Prague on January 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Mark will be interned at Sunset Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at the Moments in Lakeville where Mark spent the last 4 months of his life. The care, compassion, and respect for Mark from all who worked there brought so much peace to us as we navigated the final stages of Alzheimer's.
