Mark Walden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 17, 2025.
Mark Bargersville Kevin Walden Mark Kevin Walden, 66, of Bargersville, Indiana, passed away on December 9, 2024, from chronic illness. Born on February 21, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Cebert and Vada (Johnson) Walden, Mark lived a life filled with service, adventure, and a deep love for music and racing.

After graduating from Warren Central High School (1976), Mark proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Aircraft Mechanic.

Mark was an airline mechanic at American Trans Air (ATA). He rose to the position of inspector supervisor and played a pivotal role in unionizing ATA, serving as Union President for 870 members. In 2004, Mark became a contractor with the US Navy, specializing in non-destructive weapon testing at Crane Naval Base.

In 2001, Mark married Barbara. Over their 25-year marriage, they shared a love for the Indianapolis Colts, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, travel, concerts, wine festivals, and quiet evenings at home.

Mark's attended over 60 concerts, including legendary acts like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, the Allman Brothers Band, and Supertramp. He was a skilled negotiator, too, but racing was his ultimate love. His military and airline careers allowed him to explore the world, visiting countries such as England, the Philippines, Scotland, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and Japan.

Mark was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Walden, his brothers Larry and Michael Walden, and his parents.

He is survived by his two daughters: Lacy (Matt) O'Malley, and Cassie (Catharine) Walden, along with two grandsons, Lincoln and Dylan O'Malley. He is also survived by his siblings: Dale (Donna) Walden, of Owensboro, KY, Shelia (Pete) Brown, of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Barbie (George) Mayle of Centerville, IN, and their families, including 10 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at the Dallara IndyCar Factory. Please check Mark's Facebook page for further details.
