Marlene Callahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2024.
Marlene "Marty" Callahan (nee May) passed away on April 20, 2024, at home in San Jose, CA, at the age of 92 from pancreatic cancer surrounded by family. She was born on June 29, 1931, in San Jose, CA. The family would like to thank her doctor and hospice team at Santa Clara Kaiser for their excellent care.

Marlene was a loving homemaker who adored her family. She was known for her fun-loving, social, loyal, resilient, and caring nature. She enjoyed attending her children's sporting events and activities in her younger years. She helped build the Sunnyvale Southern snack shack at De Anza Park as her late husband George was a longtime Little League coach. She enjoyed watching Terry surf and play baseball, and Sandy play soccer, softball, and volleyball. She was a longtime San Francisco Giants fan and made every effort to watch all of their games on TV in her later years. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach or lounging by the pool, and took her first steps as a baby on Capitola Beach. She cherished traveling to Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, Palm Springs, and Thunder Valley Casino. She was known as "Party Marty" by many friends and family.

Marlene was born in San Jose, CA and moved to San Francisco at the age of four. She attended Grant Grammar School and Lincoln High School in San Francisco, CA. She maintained close contact with her many cousins and aunts and uncles in San Jose and recalled spending many summers cutting "cots" on her aunt's ranch. She had fond memories of attending high school dances with her friends and skipping school to "sunbathe" at China Beach, SF where she may have been found by the truant officer on at least one occasion.

She is survived by her son Terry Callahan, daughter-in-law Wendy Callahan, daughter Sandra Cardoza, son-in-law Larry Cardoza, grandson Riley Cardoza, and grandson Kevin Callahan. Marlene was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Callahan and husband George Callahan. She was actively involved in her grandsons' lives and was extremely proud of them.

No services are planned at this time per her request. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in Marlene's memory.

The Neptune Society in San Jose, CA, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
