MARLENE D. PRIMACK (KAPLAN) Marlene Primack, 61, wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and pharmacist died on July 22, 2016 surrounded by loved ones after a seventeen year battle with breast cancer. Born in Gary, IN, Marlene graduated from Munster Community High School and the University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Pharmacy. Marlene began her career as a pharmacist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. After practicing pharmacy for five years, she became the owner and operator of a gift shop in the Pittsfield Building in Chicago, IL. In 1995, after operating her store for more than 10 years, Marlene moved from Chicago to Frankfort, IL. Marlene resumed the practice of pharmacy in Frankfort where she worked for the Medicine Shop, Osco, and Dominick's pharmacies. Marlene retired from the practice of pharmacy ten years ago. During her life, she dedicated herself to various charities through fundraising and generously donating her time and unique organizational talent. Marlene was a brownie leader, past member of Frankfort School District 157-C Education Foundation, auction chair for the Catherine Cook School of Chicago, and served many leadership roles for Suburban Service League, including the presidency. She loved gardening, swimming, water skiing, reading, and many forms of exercise. Marlene's intelligence, enthusiasm, warmth, and zest for life was contagious and her commitment to her family and friends unwavering. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her and especially by her husband Ronald Primack, son Joshua Primack (engaged to Emily Laneve), daughter Ilana Primack, brothers Martin (Linda) Kaplan, Ivan (Janet) Kaplan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL on Sunday, July 24th, 2016 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 PM. The Funeral service will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 25th, 2016 with a visitation from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment, Temple of Israel Cemetery, Portage, IN Monday, July 25th, 2016 at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make charitable contributions to Suburban Service League. I worked for Marlene for 8 years when she owned the gift shop downtown. She was not only my boss but was a true friend and mentor to me. She gave me the knowledge and experience I needed to move on and excel in my career. I have fond memories of those years and I remember her sense of humor and her infectious smile.
