Some of my fondest childhood memories was with the Eichelberg family with Marlene's cooking, baking and canning, picking vegetables in her garden and Sabbath meals after church. And anytime church had a potluck you knew you wanted whatever Marlene made because you knew it was homemade and delicious.
I can hear her voice when I would do something wild or crazy funny as she would gasp and laugh (And shake her head in disbelief) "Elizabeth!". Not too many people called me by my full name so I was either in trouble or she wanted my attention or both. I cherish those memories that she was a part of my life and grateful for her contributions to the church and church family. My heart goes out to all the family during this time and offer prayers of hope, peace and comfort. Sending love and prayers from the Donnelly Clan.

This is sad news. Her father was a good friend of my grandfather Emil Smith. We are sad that one of us is gone [for a while].

Marlene was a Special lady. She was beautiful inside & out. She use to watch my girls while we worked & I felt at ease with her while I was at work. I have stopped many times at the market & would wander over to see her. She would always be canning or baking & always smelled soooo good! At times I would hate to go bother her cause she was always busy but always so kind to give an ear & happy to see you. She really didn't mind at all. Other times I would look over & not see her car & was sadden that I couldn't give a quick Hello. She will be dearly missed by all for that I am sure! Condolences to the family. My heart goes out to each & every one of you! Prayers to all!

I am so sad to hear this news, especially since we missed seeing her our last trip to Michigan. My mother, Charlene Kelly, worked with her years ago in Sabbath School and considered her a dear friend. Her and Dwight were pillars in the Flint SDA Church. The story I have always remembered about Marlene is when she was doing nursing training at Monument Valley. She was learning to give immunizations. The children's skin was so tough from constant sun exposure that the needle would bounce off if she did not hit the skin properly. Through Maranatha I have taken hundreds of high schoolers on mission trips. I have let the brave ones try giving an injection. Every time Marlene's story is in the back on my mind. Her legacy will live on at Maranatha. We send our love and prayers to Dwight and the family.
