Marni Hickey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2025.
Marni Nicole Hickey (Fowler)

Mesa, AZ-Marni N. Hickey, 57, of Scottsdale, AZ, brought a radiant light to any room she entered. Sadly, that light dimmed on December 28, 2024. Beautiful, smart, caring and fun, Marni was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her. She was known for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and wonderful sense of humor.

Marni was born on April 28, 1967, in Indianapolis, IN, to Ronald (Ron) and Judith (Judi) Fowler. The third of three girls, Marni was the tomboy. In her youth, she competed in track, played soccer and proudly stood as the only girl on the boys' baseball team. Marni idolized The Bionic Woman and never missed an episode of Charlie's Angels or Knots Landing.

Marni graduated from Carmel High School (IN) in 1985 before attending Ball State University, where she earned her degree in 1990. During her college years, she formed cherished friendships with her Delta Zeta sisters and expressed her creative side through art classes.

In 1992, she married her college sweetheart and moved to Denver, CO and subsequently Seattle, WA. Although their marriage ended in 2006, Marni's love for her children, Payton Hickey and Ethan Hickey, was infinite.

Some of Marni's favorite pastimes included food, shopping, and fashion. A true foodie, she possessed a remarkable palate; she could taste a dish and identify all the ingredients. Marni delighted in cooking and was an expert at artistic food presentation. She also appreciated a good steak, and a simple burger with mustard, onion and pickle. Her fondness for collecting little boxes, books, clothing, and vintage jewelry led to a lifelong love affair with garage sales and thrift stores. Marni was always on the hunt for unique treasures. Stylish and chic, she dressed to impress.

Tenacious and techy, Marni tackled the fast-paced world of IT, holding various project management roles in both Washington and Arizona. But Marni wasn't all business; in Arizona, she embraced the sunshine and friendly competition of pickleball and water volleyball and found creative outlets in crafting.

Marni is survived by her children Payton Hickey and Ethan Hickey; sisters Shawn (Bob) Deitch, and Paige (Andy) Hunkin; as well as countless friends who were inspired by her warmth and humor. She was preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Judith Fowler.

A private celebration of Marni's life will be held near Lake Tippecanoe, Indiana, where she spent many summers with family.

Marni loved to read and was fond of libraries. Memorial donations can be made in her honor to your local library. If you would like to leave a video message or share a photo, please go to: https://share.vidday.com/e/m-mqjxu1

It is with a heavy heart that I write this note.... I learned the heartbreaking news, last Sunday. Taking it all in this past week to reflect ... since Marni & I just texted on Christmas & the day after...

In Tribute- Marni Hickey

To my dear, sweet, loving, kind, vivacious, smart, funny, beautiful soul, charismatic, strong-willed, artistic, caring & always thoughtful girlfriend, Marni. I will treasure our 30years of friendship- sisterhood and all the wonderful memories we created together over the years!

My heart goes out to Marni´s family & friends during this time of loss. To her children, Payton & Ethan, your mom loved you both so deeply, she was a proud momma! And to her sisters, Shawn & Paige- Marni always spoke of you both with such love & admiration, in our conversation throughout the years. We loved swapping sister stories.

Forever loved by many hearts you touched along the way, a true gift

Until we meet again... I love you, Marni, always & forever

My heartfelt condolences to Shawn, Paige, Payton and Ethan and all who encountered Marni. Whether you've known her a lifetime or by a chance encounter, it was impossible not to be touched by the mesmerizing magic she brought into the world. Unforgettable.

Marni and I were both early risers in our teens and since our families were up early it meant we could call each other first thing. Often we'd go on a wholesome adventure on our mopeds during these early summer mornings. I have shared just a snippet of the many photos I have of her over the years, including a page from my scrapbook of one of those adventures.

I am grateful I got to see her in LA before moving back to the UK.

I was a really good friend of Marni's parents. I played tennis with them, sold houses for them and sold one to Page and Bob. Marni was a good friend of my son, Skip Nordhoff. She was 1 of his first girl friends in Jr high. So sorry to her her passing at such an early age.
