Marshall was a very genuine human being. It was very sad to learn of his passing. He was truly a pleasure to work with...

Dear Heather and all 5 children:
As if it was yesterday, I remember Marshall in 1962/3 when he was writing (and I was typing) his thesis. Always in a hurry because he was late! And he was asking me to correct his spelling as I was quite good at it, though a foreigner!
And till the last day of his life, Marshall seldom changed as he wanted to live life to its fullest. A hard worker, he always found time to help a friend. He liked that a lot. I remember when Johanna was sick, he always found time to take her to the doctor or the hospital, because his children meant a lot to him
And when they were not ready to give him grand-children, he went and made his own!
Yes, Marshall loved life and played it fully: Always positive and full of energy, he loved to dance, laughed a lot, cracked jokes but was always there if you needed him. What an amazing person he was and using the past tense make me feel funny as I feel he is still around, ready to surprise us.
I will miss his advice, his love, his strength, his love of life and I will never forget when we went to Connecticut, bringing a boat back and exploring the surroundings, having a great time. When back in NYC, I suddenly cried. He could not figure it out till I told him I was 21 that day. That did not disturb him and we did celebrate some more.
I also cherish the time when he visited me in Grenoble at Christmas time. He traveled 20 hours to get there and Marie did not allow a stop to eat as we would be late for mass! So finally it was time to sit down and eat with all my family. When the foie gras pass (goose liver delicatessen) by him, he took half of it, as he was VERY hungry. My grand-mother nearly dropped , wondering who was this guest! I will never forget her face
Yes Marshall you will be missed and I hope you will have fun, after some well deserved rest.
See you next life.
Bon Voyage
Marie
