Martha Harvey Goings

SPANISHBURG — Martha Harvey Goings, 74, of Spanishburg, died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at London, Ky. Born April 23, 1935 at Hiawatha, she was the daughter of the late William Harvey and Gertrue Shaw Harvey. Mrs. Goings was a retired school teacher from Spanishburg Elementary School, Montcalm, Bramwell and Camp Creek. She was a joyful member of Burke Memorial Baptist Church in Princeton for 40 years where she was known as "The Missions Lady." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Damon Dee Goings; one son, Bruce Justin Goings; two brothers, Gilmer Harvey and Denzel Harvey; and three sisters, Ruth Powell, Virginia Hoskins and Pauline Phillips. Survivors include one son, Raymond Lee Goings and his wife Kathy of Foster; one grandson, Steven Cregger and his wife Dana of Princeton; one brother, William Harvey, Jr. and his wife Elitha of Princeton; five sisters, Hazel Bailey of Cape Cod, Mass., Samantha Tucker and her husband Jimmy of Ellerby, N.C., Roebertha Taylor and her husband Felix of Annville, Ky., Dorothy Hodge and her husband Gene of Ellison, Va. and Wanda Faidley of Princeton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Burke Memorial Baptist Church, Oliver Avenue, Princeton, with the Rev. Tom Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at the New Zion Cemetery at Elgood. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Ida Tidsworth Missions Endowment for her long service with women's Missionary union.
