Martha Hamilton Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2007.
Martha Hamilton went on to be with the Lord peacefully on February 6, 2007, surrounded by her family, whom she loved dearly. She was ready to be with her Lord and ready to reunite with her dear Cowboy & her grandchildren who went on before her. She was a wonderful wife, a loving mother of seven, grandmother and great grandmother of many. She was retired from Avondale after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was saved by Grace for more than 17 years and was a member of Westside Church of God. She loved to quilt, meticulously hand crafting each one and so she was with each one of us. Always in the know, ready to scold or console. We were all the same, favorites she did not have, fairness and equality was her way. “For she was a virtuous woman, her price was far above rubies. The heart of her family safely trusted in her. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and ate not of the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and called her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates”. So until we meet again, it will be but a stitch in time, because our dearest Martha kept her course, she kept her faith, Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! She has finished her race.
She was preceded in death by hers dedicated & loving husband, Cowboy, beloved grandson Jimmy Hampton, Jr., her darling granddaughter Rachel Higginbotham and her precious great-grandson Adam Darling. She is survived by one son, Jerry (Shirley) Hamilton and six daughters, Gail (John) Darling, Janice (Richard) Self, Kay Ree Higginbotham, Patti (Jerry) Crow, Betsy (Wayne) Brasher, Sherry Alexander (Michelle Mullis). Seventeen grandchildren, Johnny (Mary) Darling, Wayne (Valerie) Hamilton, Angela (Charles “Bubba”) McDonald, Amy Austin, Kerry (Bill) Gaston, Dana (Greg) Bailey, April (Mark) Hamilton, Lloyd Crow, Frankie (Vanessa) Higginbotham, Cindy Golden, Crystal (Jason) Sayers, Tammy McDonald, Jenny Chandler, Wendy, (Danny) Compton, Missy (Brandon) Lumpkin, Trina (Mike) Baggett & Jeffery Crow. Thirty great grand children, Meagan Darling, Linda & Lauren McDonald, William & David Gaston, Brooke, Sierra & Brandon Sayers, Holley Austin, Katherine & Sarah Hamilton, Drake Boddie, Lacey Lumpkin, Marly Kate Bailey, Chase, Justin & Hope Compton, Alexandria Heath, Johnathon Detwiller, Kennedy Hamilton, Mikey & Mason Baggett, Corbin, Dalton & Blane Higginbotham, Haley, Karly & Gracie Crow, Travis & Madeline McDonald, Brittany Darby, Kayla, Kendall, Jacqueline Mullis & Jackson Crow. The list is long but she loved them all dearly. We are all proud to have known her and blessed to have had the opportunity to love her. Special thanks to Aunt Gail, Aunt Janice and Aunt Sherry for their unfailing and unselfishness care to both of our dear parents/grandparents. Great shall be your reward.
