Martha Kelly Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 8 to May 10, 2023.
Martha Stephenson Kelly died May 7, 2023 in Medina, Ohio. Born September 13, 1948 in Akron, Ohio to John Paul Stephenson and Dolores Virginia Friess, Martha was a graduate of St. Vincent High School (1966) and the University of Akron (1970). Her 40 year career as a business teacher covered most of the Akron Public High Schools and the University of Akron. She then devoted 12 years to the Cantors Assembly of America as their placement administrative assistant.

Martha met Jon R. Kelly while she was advising a high school Junior Achievement class and his company, Audio-Technica, was the business partner. During their 31 years of marriage, they enjoyed travel to Japan, Singapore and Wintergreen, Virginia. They shared a love of the arts by supporting and volunteering with Ohio Ballet, Tuesday Musical, and Akron Symphony Orchestra. An active member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority, Martha's hobbies included tennis, walking her dogs and any activity with her nephews and nieces. With her warm smile, Martha easily made friends to whom she remained loyal and supportive all her life.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister-in-law, Christine, and sisters, Anne, and Phyllis (Mike) Griffith, Martha is survived by brother, John (Vicki); sisters, twin Mary (Dr. Jeffrey) Kase, and Alice (John) D'Attoma; brother-in-law, Michael Griffith; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Kelly Bell. Also surviving are nephews and nieces, David (Tonya) Stephenson, Dr. Jonathan (Melissa) Kase, Karen Kase, Scott (Sara) Kase, Stephen, Michael and Jamie D'Attoma, Kathleen Griffith, and Mike Griffith. Also surviving are great nieces and nephews Prudence Stephenson; John (Alison) Daily and sons, Nathan and Lucas; Anne (Steve) Sharp and son, Charlie; Kennedy, Jackson, Carter and Nolan Kase; Katelyn and Sam D'Attoma.

Martha's family would like to acknowledge the gentle care given by Dr. Stephen Andrews and his staff and by the nurses and aides at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Medina. Special appreciation to dear friends Mary, Linda, Chris, Nanci, and Bonnie for their constant support over her difficult two year battle with ovarian cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 1821 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 at 11:00am preceded by visitation at 10:00am in the church. It was my privilege to have gone to college with Martha, and then later worked at Garfield High School with her for many many years. She was always such a true professional, and she was also a very good friend. My condolences to her family. Prayers to all of you.

I had the privilege of visiting Martha in hospital. She was a gracious and courageous lady.
