Since someone else has posted a memory ten years late, I will do the same.
I was a student at Taylor Allderdice for only one year, 8th grade in 1960-61, when Miss Kunkle would have been 35. My parents must have talked to the school in advance so I was put in Miss Kunkle's advanced math class. I remember the seating plan by our last names in alphabetical order (sitting next to Marlene Klein). I remember how much I enjoyed that year in Miss Kunkle's class, and when I returned home to West Lafayette Indiana for 9th grade, I was right in step with my classmates, maybe even a bit ahead of them. I do remember a couple other teachers of mine from that one year at Allderdice, but Miss Kunkle stands out as the best one for me.

I am sorry this is nearly 10 years late. The best math teacher (or teacher period) I ever had. She inspired a love and fascination with calculus for an entire class

Martha Kunkle was the best math teacher I ever had (including my time at Allderdice (1970), Harvard, and the University of Pennsylvania). My wife is now a High School math teacher and I know how hard math teachers work, and I appreciate her even more now that I did then.

Martha was my best friend, mentor, and my next-door neighbor during my Allderdice career. She made my success possible, and I am deeply indebted to her for so much more. I loved her dearly.

Some of us are lucky enough to have a teacher who can pass along her enthusiasm for her subject and for teaching. Miss Kunkle was the single most influential teacher of my high school experience and had a profound impact on my future life. I'm so sorry to hear that she is gone, and so glad that I had her as a teacher 1968-1970. My condolences to her family and friends, she was one of a kind.

One of the reasons that Allderdice High School became a flagstaff school was because of the mathematical genius of Martha Kunkle, Math Chairperson and superb teacher. May God rest her soul in peace.

Miss Kunkle was my Calculus teacher at Allderdice in the early 1970s. She was an excellent teacher and truly devoted to her students. I benefited greatly from her efforts and express my deepest sympathy to her family.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of our dear Miss Kunkle. My fond memories of her as my math teacher at Taylor Allderdice High School are very fresh in my mind and I'm sure in the hearts and minds of my fellow classmates. Her devotion and love of teaching makes her a treasure to us all and we will never forget her.
