Martha Rose Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 10 to Jun. 12, 2008.
Retired WAYNESBORO — Services for Martha Lee Rose will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Mike Colston and Sam Lowery officiating. Burial will be Mt. Zion Cemetery in the Aquilla Community. Mrs. Rose, 69, of Tuscumbia, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, in Tuscumbia. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Tuscumbia and the Rev. Sam Lowery officiated at her wedding. She was a graduate of Silas High School and attended the University of Alabama. She was retired from a career of more than 30 years with Avon Products of Atlanta, where she was a representative, district manager, training specialist and a division manager. She will be remembered as a wonderful and affectionate mother, child and sister. Everyone who came in contact with her were touched by her warmth and ability to make people feel loved. She was a granny to her grandchildren, who adored her and who she taught much by the life that she lived. She became a valued friend or parent to anyone who needed her. She left each of her family and friends with a "special gift." She will be remembered in love and in memories and will always be with everyone who knew her. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Harold Rose; sons, Tim Rose, Mark Rose and his wife, Wendy, all of Tuscumbia; a daughter, Machelle Ballard and her husband, Bob, of Alpharetta, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew Rose, Anna Beth Rose, Nicole Watson, Gabe Rose, Loderic Rose, Melissa Rose, Ryan Ballard, Heather Ballard and Abby Rose, all of Tuscumbia and Alpharetta. She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Matthews Sr. and Dorothy Smith Matthews and a daughter, Tammy Rose. Memorials may be made to Church Building Fund Classroom at Aquilla United Methodist Church, C/O Lynn Smith, 3065 County Road 3, Millry, AL 36558. Pallbearers will be Patrick Harris, Josh Matthews, Dr. Jimmy Matthews Jr., B.K. Smith, Mickey Smith, Randy Smith, Ricky Smith and Waurice Smith. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Words cannot begin to express how I miss my friend, Martha. She was such a inspiration to me over the years and we had so much fun during the good times and not so good times. She fought so hard to battle the dreaded disease of cancer for so many years. She was a lady of faith and looked forward to the day when she would be in Heaven with her Lord and Savior. She loved her husband, brothers, children and grandchildren unconditionally, and they were truly blessed to have had her in their lives. She was a wonderful person in every respect and we are all better persons for having had her in our lives, too. I love and miss you, Sister.

I'd like to offer my deepest sympathy to the Rose family on the loss of their mom Martha! She's in heaven now with the Lord Jesus and all her family and friends that have gone on! Please keep the faith in God above and accept Jesus Christ in your hearts so that one day each and everyone of us will be with the Lord and our family members. God bless you all.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Martha and want to extend my deepest sympathies to all of you. It has been many, many years since I have seen Martha but I remember a lady so full of life, always laughing and she certainly had the ability to make those around her laugh as well. She had such a quick and witty sense of humor. To Wendy and Mark especially, my love and prayers are with you both during this time. I love you!
