Sister Carolyn Leffler O.P.

Sister Carolyn Leffler, O.P., 91, passed away at Ascension All Saints Hospital, Racine, WI, on Wednesday April 7, 2021. Dorothy Mae was born on August 15, 1929 to Edward W. and Ida C.Leffler in Detroit, MI. On August 26, 1946 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1948 she was given the religious name Sister Carolyn. She began her ministry of teaching children in 1950 in Wisconsin and spent the next 65 years teaching, most recently in Hamtramck and Detroit area. Her students brought her so much joy. Sister Carolyn is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister Carolyn (William) Sidebottom; and nieces and nephews Susan (Jerry) Witt, William (Heather) Sidebottom and Lori (Chad) Browe. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Ruth Diehl. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a private Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. will be held in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday April 14, 2021. Interment will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested in her honor. Sister Carolyn believed that laughter was the best medicine, in her honor we ask that you continue to share her jokes.
