I was saddened to see the loss of Ms. Wood in the paper. I had helped her with her taxes over the last few years and it was always a joy to see her and feel the love she felt for people and the joy that she could bring. I will miss her.

It was an honor and pleasure to have known and worked with Martha at Moses Cone. She was a true blessing in my life and will never forget her. I send my love and prayers to all of her family, just as Martha loved and prayed for others when they needed it most. God Bless you all during this difficult time and thank you for sharing Miss Martha with all of us!

Julia,
Michelle and I are so sorry to hear about your Mom. In addition to Oak Ridge, she was there for me during my early years as an officer with the Greensboro Police Department.
Martha would always check on me whenever she saw me at Cone Emergency Room, regardless of the case. The patient may have been a victim of a simple assault or a terrible car crash, but your Mom made sure to check that I was OK. It did not matter how busy and hectic things were in the ER, she took great effort to ensure I was doing well.
Julia, you and your Family are in our thoughts.
With love,
Michelle and Scott Caviness

Yea though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death...
Martha understood…the idea is –
Go THROUGH the valley…don't stop.
Even in the middle of a hard diagnosis,
her stance was –
this valley might be dark,
and deep and dreary
but I'm gonna keep moving,
keep pressing on,
I'm gonna bring my little “God light”
into this darkness
that wants to consume me
and I'm not gonna let this valley
defeat my spirit.
I'm not gonna let this valley
rob me of my peace
I'm not gonna let this valley
cause my faith to falter
Her stance was, I will fear no evil –
because God is with me.
The way she handled herself,
the way she continued to love and give and share over the final months of her life truly was a testament to her faith
and to the love that she carried in her heart for her brother, her Savior her friend… Christ Jesus.
I will miss you Martha.
Thanks for EVERYTHING.
My heart is with the family as they wrestle with her loss.
Much love to you all.

Our appreciation of Martha comes from Sam working with her in the Moses Cone Emergency Department when he first started there as an EMT, then an LPN and then an RN. She never ceased to be a role model for nurses. Thank you Martha! We celebrate your life. -Sam and Susan Coble

It now time for you to rest. It is not going to be the same without you around the house, but you are going to a house that you can look after me. I'am going to miss you. I love so much.
