Martin was a really fun dad. He took us snow boarding. He taught us chords to play at hootenannies. He took us to maple tree farms and bought us maple candy. Marcey, he was the coolest!

We first met Martin, Marguerite and Marcey in 1969. Mel started working as a naturalist at Acadia National Park, where Martin was a ranger. We traveled from Illinois each summer. We became good friends over the years. We also visited them in Florida and Elwood.

Linda, we thank you for taking such good care of Martin over these last years of his life. You have our sincere sympathy.

Martin was a great friend, very interested in what you did and who you were. He loved people especially kids. Our granddaughter Jessi was a favorite of his. He called her his drinking buddy. She loved to sit on Martins lap when we visited during the years that I worked with him at Acadia for those 12 summers and then for the years after when they spent their summers in Maine. Martin was a wonderful person and we and his family will miss him greatly. Our best to you LInda and Marcey.

Marcy and Linda: We are sorry for your loss. Martin was a very special person and all who knew him, family and community are better for having shared him. We remember fondly the year Mick was Exalted Ruler of the Elks (1987-88) and Martin was the Citizen of the Year - a well deserved honor. Sincerely, Jan & Mick Helpling, Crooked Lake, Columbia City

Marcey,
Your dad was the teacher EVERYONE wanted and I was blessed to have in the 6th grade. He made learning fun and was fun-loving. There are certain teachers that are memorable and he is definitely one of them. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers for you and your family are in the HOPE of knowing one day we WILL all meet again, Love in Christ,

I worked with Martin at Acadia National Park, (YCC 72 and 73). What a great supervisor, friend and mentor he was. I'm pleased he lived such a long and prosperous life.

Linda and Marcey,
Our hearts go out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Martin was a terrific father, husband and teacher. The lives that he touched here in Elwood can never be measured completely. He was a truly dedicated man. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Linda & Marcy,
Our condolences to you. Martin was such a good man. We appreciate the caring you gave him in his later years. He was a treasure.

What a very special person Martin was in our lives. He & my dad were friends as kids and then when they married, they were friends as couples.

He was a very big tease, but he did it in a way that I loved as a child. I also loved the way he had a spirit of adventure. Though he was a school teacher during the year, I always thought he lived adventurous summers!

I know his passing has taken my mom by surprise and she is reliving many memories.

Bless you and our deepest sympathy is with you all.
