ENGELBRECHT Mr. Martin John Engelbrecht, age 84 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Martin was born August 15, 1925, in Honey Creek, Mo., the son of Johann Julius Henry and Barbara Margaretha Sommerer Engelbrecht. He was married on October 18, 1958, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo. to Patricia Ann Elliott. Martin attended the Ambrose School from grades one to six and then Immanuel Lutheran School for for grades seven and eight, where he was confirmed by the Reverend E.G. Bultmann. He graduated from Cole County R-5 High School in Eugene, Mo. in 1943. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Martin was employed by the University of Missouri as an associate county agent until 1960 when he worked in the 1960 census. In July, 1960, he went to work for the Missouri Farm Bureau as the Cole County agent, where he worked for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo.; a member of the Brazito Honey Creek Lions Club; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a member of the Osage River Antique Power Assn.; a board member of the Cole County Farm Bureau; a member of the International Cockshutt Assn.; a member of the Missouri River Valley Steam Engine Assn.; and he enjoyed restoring antique tractors. Survivors include: his wife, Pat of the home; two sons, Michael John Engelbrecht of Jefferson City, Mo. and Bryan Patrick Engelbrecht of Warrensburg, Mo.; one daughter, Joyce LeAnn Fitzpatrick and her husband Nick of Holts Summit, Mo.; three sisters, Alma Webb of the state of California, Mary Ann McNarie of Hamilton, Mo., and Alice Dorothy Vander Harr of the state of Illinois; one brother, Leroy Engelbrecht and his wife Doris of Jefferson City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Cowley. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Reverend Jeffrey Schanbacher officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.. until 11:00 a.m. Monday. Sorry to hear the passing of my old insurance agent. Martin started my first auto policy in 1972. He touched so many lives in so many ways. May you find comfort in these following days knowing that he is remembered by so many.
