Martin Flowers Obituary

Martin Eugene and Elfriede Gradel Flowers died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at their home in Cochranville. Marty was born in Coatesville to the late Stanley and Chesla Stanek Flowers. He graduated from S. Horace Scott High School in 1965. He then joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany, where he met Elfriede Gradel, who was working in an American Hospital. They got married in Germany in 1968, then moved to Cochranville. Marty worked at Arcelor Mittal for 45 years in the test labs. He enjoyed golf and making golf clubs. Elfriede was a retired medical secretary, working most recently for Dr. Schmidt. She enjoyed working out. Marty and Elfriede are survived by their daughter, Marlene Jordan and her husband Chris; two grandsons, Kyle and Eric Jordan; and two great-grandchildren Jacob and Eileen Jordan. A memorial service for Marty and Elfriede will be held Friday, November 3, 2017, 10am at Wentz Funeral Home, 342 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville 610-384-0318. Visitation will begin at 9am. Marty and I knew each other throughout high school and we both ended up going in the military. Because our last names were close alphabetically, we often sat near each other in classes. I will always remember his humor and his quiet demeanor. He was a good classmate and I will always remember his friendliness to others and me.
