Martin E. Gardner, 85, of Carlisle, died March 24, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Des Moines, Polk County and was a farmer most of his life in Warren County. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Prall) Gardner. He is survived by his three daughters, Pamela Frank of Minneapolis, MN, Brenda King of Altoona, IA, and Elizabeth Wedemeyer of Colleyville, TX; three grandchildren, Ryan Armstrong, Brenton and Clarissa Wedemeyer. Martin will be missed by everyone who knew him. No public services are planned. Online condolences may be made at www.petersonfuneralservice.com

Martin was the first person in the front seat of the school bus on my first day of school. He let me sit with him for most of that year. Years later, we would talk and sometimes walk together at the mall.
