I remember "Marty" from our student days at RISD. He often came to my dorm with his banjo and we would sing together. Treasured times. What a beautiful man. My condolences to his family. (Maryann Raymond)

Shocked—just saw his name leading the Memoriam list at the Emmys. I knew Marty during our years at RISD. Enjoyed his frequent guitar gigs in the school Refectory, and was lucky to work with him on a few Take-A-Break weekend student productions. When he got his BFA, he and his housemates gifted me with an oil-crayon decorated US Navy practice bomb [empty casing, nothing lethal]. Honoring those days, and that legendary foursome of fun and creative dudes at "the Pit", I STILL HAVE IT—brought it with our household goods when we moved to L.A. in ’79. For years, I hoped to run into him at an alum event, so I could surprise him with it! Regrettably, that wasn't to be. Still, I hope he enjoyed fond memories of those student years—I sure do, in no small measure thanks to Marty; and (as a longtime fan) I'm grateful he was able to share his extraordinary creativity, humor, and kindness with the entertainment world at large.

Thank you for reaching me via my Toshiba portable b&w tv at the tender age of 16 on Fernwood 2 Night. I was just then discovering I could get away with watching late-night tv without my parents noticing, and having that experience coupled with watching a kind of humor I never knew existed on that show made a life-long impression on me that gave me a new way to look at the world that has never left me. Thank you <3
