Martin Swan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2017.
Martin Willis Swan, 49, of Oceanside, CA, was brutally murdered Tuesday, August 29th, 2017 while innocently watching his dogs play in Bishop Park and Recreation Center.

Martin was born on March 8th, 1968 in McCook, NE. He was adopted at the age of 5-weeks by B. Willis and Janice Swan. As a child Martin always had to "figure out" how things worked. He loved to tear things apart and put them back together again. He was often too smart for others to comprehend, but his solutions were almost always right.

Martin attended grade school in Neligh Nebraska and graduated from Nebraska Christian High School, Central City, NE with the class of 1986. He went on to attend Kearney State College and then entered the U.S. Navy in 1992. While in the Navy he was stationed in many locations including New Zealand, and "Operation Deep Freeze" in Antarctica. This is where he picked up his nickname: "Polar Bear."
Following his Navy career, he utilized his skills, knowledge, and love for technology and entered the IT field. He worked for several companies before being hired by Camp Pendleton, where he had been employed for several years.

Martin had a passion for gaining knowledge, reading books, and also studying all things medical related. He loved his dogs, snowboarding, traveling, driving long distances, cartoons, and the ocean. He also always had a "project" he was working on. He was a loving and caring individual who always put his friends and family first, even to his own hurt. There was nothing he wouldn't do to help someone out. Martin's legacy will continue on through the people he touched wherever he went.

Martin is survived by: his sister Tricia Swan Albright and her husband Peter, his adopted brothers Craig Heckert and his wife Lia and William Russell. His nieces and nephews, Benjamin Albright and his wife Tori, MacKenzie Albright and her fiancé Ryan, Courtni, Mercedes, Victoria, and Hadassah Heckert, his 4-legged kids (dogs) Nian, Katera, Chipotle, and Stracey. Plus many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents B. Willis and Janice Swan.

There will be a celebration service Sunday, October 1st , 11 am, Eternal Hills Memorial Park Mortuary and Crematory, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 93054.

A memorial fund has been established in his name on GoFundMe. This GoFundMe page is to give to Martin's favorite charity, The Humane Society, and also to help cover the costs of this unexpected tragedy and future trial expenses: https://www.gohttps://members.mem.com/SSO/newde/7548638#manageproduct/contactsfundme.com/martin-swan-memorial-fund

I still cannot believe that you are gone. Someone so good, taken from all of us. I will always remember all of our conversations and everything that you did for me. I will always love you buddy.

Love and prayers to Tricia & family, and the fortunate people who called Marty 'Friend'. I haven't seen him since high school, but have nothing but positive memories of him in those days. He was a joy to have in class--always cheerful, always working, and always asking questions. He was invaluable working on the yearbook. I will never forget his constant grin. He was 'everybody's friend, nobody's enemy'.
