Obituary: Martin Jay Weinberg

Martin Jay Weinberg is the definition of a 21st century Renaissance man; a devoted husband, father, brother, engineer, mentor and friend who identified a way to excel in everything he attempted Better known as "The Legendary Marty" in his youth, he dedicated his life to tending to and looking after others above himself Martin took every opportunity to fully live life every day, appreciating his family and friends and exploring every corner of the globe with his beloved wife, Margaret

His family was always his number one priority, yet Martin had an immensely entrepreneurial spirit He is the founder and CEO of Xamax Industries, where he also served as Chief Inventor Throughout his career, he wrote and published dozens of patents while running the business for over 25 years However, he would be most proud to call everyone who worked alongside him at Xamax a part of his family He was known in even the toughest of times to bring strength and patience to colleagues and went out of his way to support them His calm demeanor under almost any circumstance was often the beacon that guided those surrounding him through any short term chaos

Martin lived everyday by the personal philosophy of "Imagination Becomes Reality" Even when diagnosed with a formidable opponent in cancer, he never gave up his inquisitive and creative personality He always prided himself on both being personally inventive while creating opportunities to positively affect others

Martin was a global spirit and world traveler He visited every continent (except Antarctica) multiple times and had a keen appreciation for diverse cultures His love of adventure took him trekking in the Himalayas, traversing the South Pacific, road tripping across Europe, and being one of the first to open new locations (particularly Myanmar, Papa New Guinea, and the first Westerner to visit Tibet in almost a half-decade) He's a gifted photographer who loved to accentuate his world travels with breathtaking pictures His photos of meals at outstanding restaurants around the world were widely enjoyed by both those who shared the occasions as well as friends who relived the experience through the visuals

A gourmet chef by passion, he took immense joy crafting culinary masterpieces for his friends and family, often engaging them as sous chefs for the evening He would do so in yet another of his many achievements, the design and creation of his home in New Canaan, CT He ideated and executed numerous rounds of renovations and improvements throughout multiple decades, turning a tired 1915 Federalist house into an everlasting family home

It is with immense grief we write that our exceptional and beloved Martin succumbed to cancer He fought the disease just as he lived: valiantly, courageously, diligently and patiently Throughout the whole process, and even when things looked their most dire, he always had hope that the next week he would be back in action - Ready to care for others just as they had cared for him

Martin would ask you toast him tonight with your beverage of choice, be it sparkling water or single malt scotch (both being favorites of his), and tell stories about the amazing memories you have created along your life journey He would ask you to fully live life every single day, love your family and friends, and treasure every moment and relationship; all values he embraced daily

Born in Riverdale (The Bronx), Martin is an alumnus of the Bronx High School of Science and City College of New York, as well as a proud Eagle Scout and senior fellow of IEEE He was the son of the late Abraham and Sara Weinberg of New York City and Fort Lauderdale, FL His spirit proudly lives on in his wife, Margaret, his son, Max, and his brother, Howie, as well as the thousands of individuals he touched along the way

We are not holding a traditional wake, funeral or sitting shiva Martin took pride in always drumming to his own beat and we will continue to follow his creative spirit with a Celebration of Life memorial in the coming weeks

In lieu of flowers, we ask that people consider contributing to the M Family Foundation, with every donation continuing his spirit of focusing on others To do so, make checks payable to Fidelity Charitable with M Family Foundation (Account 1149704) included in the memo section and sent to Fidelity Charitable, PO Box 770001, Cincinnati, OH 45277-0053

Up until the very end, Martin was steadfast that he lived an extraordinary and fulfilling life Even though we say his time on earth was cut short too soon, his friends will all swear he lived more than others who survived decades longer
