Marvin (Marv) Gassman, age 82

Marvin (Marv) Gassman beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend passed away on October 11, 2023. He is survived by his sons Gary (Joe Thomas) Gassman and Bary (Heather) Gassman, grandkids Sam and Olivia Gassman who he adored beyond words, honorary daughter-in-law, Harmony Leiran, and the mother of his kids and good friend, Judy Lisnek. Brother to Linda (Mike) Cohen, Harold Cohen and the late Bob (Lynn) Gassman. Nephews and nieces David Gassman, Ilyse (Lee) Brownstein, Brad Gassman, Tony (Jennifer) Gassman, Bonnie (Tom) McNulty, Brooke (Mike) Collins, Nikki (Andrew) Golden, Jana (Othy) Schwering, and Lauren (Michael) Freedman. Great nephews and nieces Griffin, Payton, Justin, Hannah, Grace, Shane, Tyler, Emma, Devin, Jacob, Ben, Lily and Mila. Marv began his life in Albany Park where he developed his street smarts, his sharp sense of humor, his loyalty and love of family, and his lifelong friendships. In addition to brunches, dinners, vacations and holidays with his extended family, Marv cherished his Wednesday night dinners and Saturday brunches with friends he had for 7 decades. Marv devoted his adult life to raising his sons. Even when he was driving you crazy, Marv was fun to be around, always up for exploration and adventure, and a great lover of the arts, nature and traveling, particularly his yearly month-long sojourn in Puerto Vallarta. He was a caring and loving grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, openly expressive about his love of family, friends and his own introspection and personal growth, and was the consummate mentor and adviser to many. His humor and guidance will be greatly missed. Service Monday, October 16, 2023 at 2:00PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Road (One block north of Lake Cook Road) Buffalo Grove. Marv was my brother in law for over 30 years and always enjoyed the family experiences with him. He was a memorable character who was always good for a laugh. There were many memories to recall when I heard of his passing. He will be missed by many in the family. I still think of him when we go to the coast.
