Marvin and I were high school pals and remained close friends for what seems like forever. We'd re-meet at high school reunions and buddy get-togethers in Florida. Our wives adored each other, and with both elegant ladies there was a plenty to adore. Back in the old days? Basketball. Poker sessions and bowling. Later? Golf and good meals. I've been thinking about Marvin ever since his illness trapped him, and will never forget our friendship.

Dear Maury & Bruce,
I could not have asked for a more perfect surrogate father after Lee passed. Only Marvin could make me smile during my darkest days. My Vt. home is decorated with a number of special treasures gifted to me by Marvin & June be it empty bottles of Mississippi Mud's Black & Tan beer or the light that hung over their pool table. I will cherish their memory always. Hanging with Marvin & June was the best of times.

Hey guys, Marvin was a character, that´s for sure, but in my heart he was simply the greatest friend any man ever had, not my friend (though we got on great), but my Dad´s. In his last years, my Dad truly had the blues, but getting into some mischief with Marvin, that was what put the light back in his eyes. In February of what turned out to be my Dad´s last year, he had a sudden stroke. Though he came back from that, in the first hours it looked like he´d gone, in a heartbeat, from a genius and Marvin´s ideal foil and playmate to an agitated, frightened shell with only fear behind his eyes. Before us kids got to him, which took a while, Marvin never left his side, doing whatever he could to comfort our Dad through a terrible and seemingly hopeless time when the docs and nursing staff were ready to write our Dad off. Then he stayed with our family for days as my Dad slowly recovered and returned to himself. My Dad recovered only to receive a terminal cancer diagnosis a few months later. The road ahead was hell, but Marvin stuck with him to the end. Marvin was kindness, patience and loyalty personified. Decades later I tear up with gratitude for all he did, just by stubbornly refusing to be driven off by sadness and ill fortune. Marvin was my hero, and my Dad´s greatest friend. No one else came close.

I'm so sorry to hear about Marvin's passing and I raise a toast to his beautiful long life! Marvin's smile and his special light will no doubt be carried on by his children and their children...it was too bright to not be felt by generations to come. With deepest condolences.

Marvin and June were one (two?) of a kind. When we were college students back in the 1970's, they always had a bed, a meal, tickets to a Broadway show (June's idea, Marvin might roll his eyes), beer in the refrigerator, anything to make us feel at home. Thanksgivings there were a treat. We loved being with them at the house on Shelter Lane, and we truly felt that we were always welcome and that we were loved. To Maury and Bruce - your dad was a special man. All of us - Brett, Dave, Wayne and me - have wonderful memories of Marvin that we will treasure always. He was a peach, an imp, a guy with a great sense of humor and love in his heart, plain and simple, just one hell of a guy.
