Marvin Ray RUSSELL Died November 2,2008 in Portland, OR. Born to Guida and Marvin Russell Sr. on December 10,1945 in Southgate, CA. Marvin graduated in 1963 from Buena High School, Ventura California. He worked at a radio station hosting his own jazz program calling himself "The Baron of the Beach". In 1965 he moved to New York to pursue a career in acting. In 1967 he moved back to California where he married Geraldine Reynolds. They lived In Berkley where Marvin became the assistant manager at Discount Records. The following summer they moved to Seattle, Wa. where Marvin developed a passion for cooking and began a long career in the restaurant business. He ran several of the best dining rooms in Seattle including the Hilton, the Camlin, Chez Paul, McGovern's, and the Mirabeau. He then became Maitre de at Lofurnos where happily worked for many years. He generously cooked for friends and family. Marvin moved to Portland, OR in 1999 and returned to school to complete a Bachelor of Arts in History before going on to a Masters degree in political science. At the time of his death Marvin was a few credits shy of completion. Marvin was a passionate, intelligent man who loved life. He will be deeply missed. Surviving Marvin are his former wife and mother of his children, Geraldine Russell, children Victoria Thompson, Franck Carucci, Elizabeth Morgan, Claudine Covolo, Matthew Russell, and Thomas Coleman Russell, his brother Guy P. Russell and sister Terri Leigh Roberts, nine grand children and two great grand children. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13th at Magnolia Church of Christ, 3555West McGraw St., 1:15p.m.
