Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Ashley.
There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in rural Ashley.
Marvin H. Schneider, son of Adam and Marie (Heinrich) Schneider, was born July 1, 1933, on the family homestead in Beresina Township, McIntosh County, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Beresina District.
He was united in marriage to Delores Nitschke on Oct. 28, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. They made their home on his parents' farm, raising small grains and livestock. In 1998, Marvin semi-retired, and he and Delores built a new home in Ashley.
Marvin had a tremendous love of farming, especially harvesting. He enjoyed antiques and working in his shop, where he could be found repairing equipment and restoring John Deere two-cylinder tractors. Playing accordion also gave him much enjoyment. Those who knew him always looked forward to hearing his stories, as he was a good storyteller and a bit of a jokester. But nothing was as important to him as his family, and his grandchildren were extremely special to “Papa.”
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley Lions Club and McIntosh County Historical Society, a past 35-year member of the McIntosh County Water Commission, a past member of Ashley Medical Center Hospital Board, and served 15 years on the Tri-County Fair Board and Zion Lutheran Church Council.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randall Schneider of Bismarck and Tony (Trisha) Schneider of Ashley; three daughters, Susan (Steve) Richard and Sonja (Scott) Anderson, both of Fargo, and Sheryl (Scott) Kosel of Nevis, Minn.; and nine grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Honorary casketbearers will be his grandchildren, Amber Richard, Isaac Kosel, Reid Anderson, Luke Kosel, Brandon Richard, Blayne Anderson, Grant Schneider, Kathryn Schneider and Grayce Anderson.
Casketbearers will be Nancy Fischer, Roxann Sorum, Terry Schlenker, Neil Schneider, LeRoy Bertsch and Kenny Schneider.
The organist will be Steve Glaesmann, and there will be special music by Zion Lutheran Church Choir and the Marvelous Grace Singers.
