Marvin Schur Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2025.
Marvin Herbert Schur (1929-2025) died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Edie, on April 8, 2025.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Marvin spent much of his life between New York City and Palm Beach. A proud graduate of Temple University, he rose from modest beginnings to achieve great success through hard work, quiet determination, and unwavering humility. Marvin served as President and CEO of J. Aron & Co., where he spent many fulfilling years before retiring as a Partner at Goldman Sachs following its acquisition of the firm.

A dedicated philanthropist, Marvin gave generously of his time and resources to numerous healthcare and educational institutions, including North Shore Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center, NYU, Mount Sinai Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital Center, and The University of Pennsylvania.

Marvin was a man of elegance and routine - a coffee connoisseur, always punctual, and never without a clean shave. But above all, he was happiest traveling the world hand-in-hand with his beloved Edie, his wife and partner of 74 years.

He is survived by his devoted children: Dr. Michael Schur (Jody), Linda Schur Scaletar (Eric), and Dr. Betsy Schur Levy. He was the adored grandfather of Lilli (Ilya), Rachel (Ben), Jenny (David), James (Chantal), Daniel, and Charlotte, and the proud great-grandfather of Liam, Olivia, Nina, Aiden, Ellie, and Sawyer. Marvin was predeceased by his granddaughter, Josie.

Marvin was a beautiful man.
