Dear Rudy and Barbara,
I wanted to share with you what a wonderful and profound impact your dad made in life. There was never a man as kind, caring, patient, compassionate & thoughtful as Marvin Shields. So many of my joyful childhood memories are the result of these fine qualities of his. I think he knew, at that time, my own father wasn’t capable of providing that special TLC I so desperately needed.
I thank him for introducing me to gardening, family cook outs in your backyard, camping in the mountains…especially exploring the Skyline Drive/Big Meadows area, a road trip to Roanoke, the Sunday drives to see the city of Reston being built…. with the special treat of Burger King Whoppers on the way home, driving a golf cart, dinner at Chicken ‘n the Ruff ( Barbara, I think that was your favorite). I especially thank him for always making me feel like part of your family and always being welcome in your home. He was my guardian angel!
I thank him for being such a warm and caring friend to my dear mother through all these years. He helped her through some difficult times. I know she especially loved the time they spent biking. When I think about it, your dad touched the lives of every member of my family. We are all saddened by the loss of this great man.
Please know my thoughts are with you all in this time of sadness. May your many warm memories comfort you during this difficult time.
All my love to each of you.
With deepest sympathy,
Nancye ( Lynch )Meyers
