Marvin Spender Obituary
Marvin Spender of Crete, IL formerly of South Holland, IL went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Mr. Spender is survived by his wife, Christine Spender (nee Kooi) and preceded in death by his first wife Carolyn Spender (nee Davis). He is the father of Larry (Marilee) Spender, Linda (Jerry) Tessarolo, and Donald (Cyndi) Spender. Grandfather of seven and great grandfather of six. Brother of Wesley Spender and the late Calvin (Nancy) Spender. Visitation Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lanes (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN. Memorial service Monday, January 27, 2014 11:00 a.m. at Faith Church (100 E. 81st Ave., Dyer, IN). Interment Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lansing, IL. Memorial contributions may be given to Bible League International. Mr. Spender was a former owner of Suburban Garden Center in South Holland and was a Korean War Air Force Veteran. We were very sorry to hear of Grandpa Marv's passing. I have many fond memories of time spent with him and my Grandma ~ summer vacations, drop offs for basketball camps and family gatherings at the farm. Larry, Linda and Don, your spouses and children, We are truely sorry for your loss. Kath, I and Jenny have great memories of Marvin and the fun we had, with him and our Mother both here in British Columbia and at the house in Crete. The fishing in the creek behind the house and the pizza nights are all great memories. One of my and Jenny's favorite memories is Marvin telling the joke "Mrs. Pot's Pit". That one never got old and we laughed every time he told it. I was working on an old Bob DYLAN song this morning and it just seemed appropiate for today, "Knock'in on Heaven's Door". Rest in peace Marvin.
