CARLOS — Mary M. Addair, age 77, of Carlos, near Avondale, W.Va., passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at her residence, following a long illness.Mary was born April 11, 1931 in Freeburn, Ky., a daughter of the late Dexter E. and Mary E. Dale Christian. She was a graduate of Iaeger High School, class of 1948. A graduate of Bluefield State College, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She also received a Master's Degree from West Virginia University in Communications. She taught in the McDowell County School system for 28 years. Mary and her husband Howard were proud Boosters of Iaeger High School athletics. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Rex Allen Addair, Mark Jeff Addair, and Dexter Lee Addair. One Brother also preceded her in death, Crockett Joe Christian.Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Howard S. Addair of the home, one son, Jerry Addair of Carlos, W.Va.; three sisters, Daisy Slack of Delaware, Ohio, Connie Wychoff of Warsaw, Indiana, and Alice Addair and husband Earl of Bland, Va.; one brother, Farley McArthur Christian; ten grandchildren, Sheila Ann, Jera Gayetta, Rusty Deann, Cara Leeann, Carla Krisann, Bryna Marla, Rex Allen II (Allen), Charles Dennis (Charlie), Dexter Lee, and Mark Wilson; nine great-grandchildren, Emili Brook, Kristen Jolee, Brianna Rose, Cambria Beth, Ethen Troy, Rex Allen III (Trey), Peyton Dean, Elijah Blake, and Kolten Jay.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Elder Harold Thornsbury, Elder Darrell Mullins and Elder Elzie Mullins officiating from the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow at the Shortridge Cemetery on Garland Mountain near Garland, W.Va. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009 from 6 till 9 p.m.Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger is assisting the Addair family.To leave personal condolences online, visit www.legacy.com

Howard and family, my thoughts and prayers have always been with ya'll throughout the years and while I only had the privilege of meeting Mary a few times, I can tell ya that she was a pure treat to be around! She loved one and all, and I know she'll always be well remembered by all who knew her. May God keep all of you at this difficult time!

Howard, Alice and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mary was a great lady. I always enjoyed talking to her. She always could make you feel comfortable and enjoyable to be around.
