Mary Ambrose

My very first airplane trip (not that I remember it!) was when I was less than six months old flying from NY to Florida to visit Aunt Mary, Uncle Jim and my cousins. Fast forward 30+ years later-- my brother Patrick and I really appreciated how Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim showed up for us after our parents died relatively early in our lives. They were some of only a handful of people who were present at both of our weddings- on two coasts, three years apart. We really really appreciated the effort they made to get to both of those weddings and keep in touch with us over the years. Growing up, I wish we had lived closer to Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim and our cousins but we really treasured the memories we had of seeing them when we did. And as my brother noted in his note, Mary and Jim were a lifeline to my dad when he moved down to Florida after being widowed- I wish he had more time with them there. To think that Uncle Jim got my dad to get out and socialize at the Italian American club blows my mind (he was definitely a convincing salesman, apparently!). All our love to the whole entire Ambrose clan!

It took me a while to post, and for that I apologize. It wasn't because I was busy, or distracted, but because I wanted to make sure I was able to relay how special my Aunt Mary was to me. You see, there are people you meet in your life that you feel you have a special connection to - you get them, and they get you. And Aunt Mary was one of those people to me. I treasure the special times I had with her, one on one. I was so very blessed to be able to visit her when she moved to Northern Virginia, a block from where I worked. I often took my lunch break to visit, where Aunt Mary would make tea and we would share piece of my home made banana bread, which was one of her favorites - at least this is what she said to me. I will always remember her tough, can do attitude, which I so admired. I will miss you Aunt Mary... Much love, Junie

I met Mary in recent years, first at Meridian, then one week after I moved to Belmont, there was Mary! She was a lovely woman who had a great sense of humor.

I once met a visiting daughter, Mary, but the daughter who was a constant in her life is Christine. She was seemingly with her mom on a daily basis, making certain her hearing aids were in the correct ears, her television remote control was effectively working and she was eating healthy food! She also took her mom on excursions, to restaurants and included her on outings with friends, all of whom loved and respected Mary for her kindnesses and sense of humor, when she wasn´t present, the "party" was never the same!

My sympathies to the entire family on the great loss of the family matriarch, she was the absolute best! Gale

My Aunt Mary was most definitely a true Mohan through and through. She was Irish Bronx tough but with a wicked and hilarious sense of humor. She and Jim were invaluable to my dad, her brother, when he became a widower in 1994. They helped him out so much. My brother and I are forever grateful. May her spirit live on through the generations that she touched! - Patrick Mohan
