Mary Ann Kathleen "Katie" Madsen

February 16, 1977 - October 24, 2023

Mary Ann Kathleen "Katie" Madsen passed away on October 24, 2023. Born and raised in Tacoma, and a long-time resident of Seattle, Katie graduated from Stadium High School in 1995, and earned her B.A. from Carleton College in 1999, where she built lifelong friendships.

Katie was fiercely independent yet cherished the time she spent with her family and close friends, especially at the Madsen family beach. She was a listener, and never missed - or forgot - a detail, creating deeply personal connections among those close to her. She was loyal, thoughtful, and had a dry wit that was unmatched.

Katie loved reading and pop culture, was an avid knitter and adventurous chef and had a deep love for animals. She appreciated her solitude, though she welcomed a roommate, Mabel the cat, for many years.

Katie is survived by her mother, Julie Madsen (Bob); father, George Madsen (Sandi); brother, Colin Madsen (Jess); aunts Kathy Anderson (Frank), Barbara Madsen, Kate Reems (Mitch), and Melody Smith; stepbrothers Taj (Selene) and Ian (Brianne) Jensen; five nieces and numerous cousins and close friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Julia and George Madsen; John R. Prins and Elizabeth Knecht; stepbrother Nate Jensen; cousin Noelle Myricks; and nephew Tanner Jensen.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Tacoma & Pierce County Humane Society. The family will hold a private memorial at the beach in the spring.

We are very sorry for your loss of Katie. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. We shared many conversations these past few years, while she was on her balcony and we on our deck. She took such an interest in our family, especially our son's dog Porter (who also loved her back!) and we got to know about her family as well. We miss her every day and our prayers are with you as you experience such a great loss.

May your memories give you peace and comfort of your loved one. Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for the loss of your loved one. May GOD be with you all during this difficult time. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus.
