What a wonderful, wonderful lady and neighbor on Trentwood Drive. I can remember her huge smile, waving hand and yelling hello across the front lawn as I past her house on the way home from school. Every time I saw her over the following 50 years, she always stopped to speak and catch up, remembering our days in Garden Lakes. Cindy (Howard) Stinson

I'm remembering Mrs. Mary Ann Knight on this day of her Memorial Service. Also thinking of Mr. Knight and the rest of the family and many friends. What a special lady she was! She was an amazing piano teacher and took me to a level of playing that I never imagined possible! She really challenged me and showed me how far I could go! She was also like a mother to me, while I was at Shorter College (as she was to many). She was sincerely interested in my life outside of her studio, and that meant so much to me. She and Mr. Knight gave me a wonderful gift by playing at my wedding to Gene Soles 30 years ago! My heart goes out to you, Mr. Knight, and we send our prayers and condolences for you and all of the family.
Rest in Peace, Mrs. Knight.

So many memories! Mary Ann was an effervescent personality and I have many memories of her sitting in our kitchen visiting with my mother and laughing. She taught me and my daughter piano. I feel blessed to have known her and the entire Knight family. My prayers are lifted for Bill, Kevin and Tim

I was so sad to hear of Mrs. Knight's passing. She was my piano teacher for several years. I always looked forward to my weekly lesson with her because I knew she'd have something new planned for me and made learning classical music so enjoyable. I will never forget her smiling face nor the beautiful way she played the piano. She inspired me to continue my love of music and I am grateful to have known her and studied with her.
Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen

Mary Ann Knight is cherished as "one of a kind." Her sparkling personality and warm, caring spirit made everyone want to be in her presence. I took piano lessons at Shorter from her husband, Bill, not her. I knew her mostly because I sometimes gave her home permanents. I enjoyed being with both of them in their lovely home(s) on various occasions, and enjoyed her wonderful cooking and hospitality. She will definitely be missed by many, many people!

During the summer of 1989 I met a woman who played a huge part in shaping my life and the lives of so many others. When I first heard Mrs. Knight's voice over the phone I knew instantly that this was a lady I could trust. This was especially important to me at that time because I had reached a point of saying goodbye to music completely. Through her kindness, wisdom, patience, encouragement, and creative teaching skills she helped restore my love for music and kindled a strong passion within me for teaching piano. Mrs. Knight truly loved and cared for all her students and had a way of connecting with people that motivated even the most reluctant pianist. Every time I left her studio I felt as though I was a better person just from having spent time with her. In the words of Frances Clark, she was a teacher who "motivated me" by reminding me that I was "capable," and showed me how to solve problems (both in life and on the keys). She showed unconditional love and support to me even during the darkest moments of my life. She was a remarkable example and model of a teacher and friend in the truest sense of the word. Mr. Knight, Kevin, and Tim, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Mary Ann Knight, thank you. Thank you for being like a second mother to me and the teacher I needed, right at the perfect time. I thank God for you and your calling to love and teach. The seeds you planted will continue to grow. Rest in sweet peace.

The world has lost an amazing woman in Marry Ann Knight. My Facebook lit up with memories upon her passing from all of my friends at Shorter and while I didn't have her directly as a teacher for any length of time, I did feel her presence throughout my years at Shorter. Mr. Knight please know you are in my thoughts and take comfort in knowing that your wife's legacy lives on through countless musicians and reaches far from the town in which she taught. Mary Ann will be dearly missed.

Terry and I are so sad about the lost of Mary Ann. She made our wedding so very special for playing for us. She was nothing less than an angel on Earth. Now she is an angel in Heaven. I imagine she outshines them all. One of the most dear people ever - a model of class, graciousness, and pure kindness...

Mrs. Knight was my piano teacher for 4 years...She was my life teacher for far longer than that. She had a very special way of making each one of us feel that we were her favorite. Secretly, we each believed we were. I know now how unusual her gift was to reach so many students of different levels, to meet us where we were, see our potential and inspire us to move in that direction. We are all blessed for having spent time with her. She was a treasured teacher, mentor, mother and friend. Her music lives on in the lives of the next generation. Our debt of love and gratitude must be paid forward now. We love you good MAK. Rest in peace.

Dear Mrs. Knight,
When i began playing piano in 1989 and wanted to take lessons, I asked a few of my classmates if they new any good teachers. One John Eaton Morris, a fine pianist himself, mentioned that his teacher, Mrs. Knight, might be willing to take me on. It was not long after that I was sitting in your studio, fairly nervous, hacking away at some random improvisation, and butchering Chopin's Etude, Op. 28, no. 7. You were gracious, you were funny, you were kind, and encouraging. Even though you had no room for new students at the time, you helped to kick-start my musical journey. When i decided to pursue a music degree, you continued to provide encouragement, direction, and a healthy dose of chiding when i was acting in a ridiculous manner. Though our communication over the past years has been minimal, i know you had an amazing impact on so many and i'm grateful our paths crossed. I will always be grateful for your influence. Rest in peace.

I have such wonderful memories of sitting outside of Mrs. Knight's class at Shorter, before my English class, and listening to her teach. It was just beautiful. This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship and she graced me with agreeing to play at my wedding. Heaven has truly accepted another angel to fill the world with music! Much love and prayers to the Knight family.

Mary Ann was as beautiful inside as well as out. She had such a positive impact on my life during my years at Shorter College. She had such excitement for life that made me look so forward to each piano lesson. We shared many laughs, as well as tears. I remember her telling me that if she could write a commercial it would be of the prince calling for Rapunzel to let down her golden hair and when she did a pile of dandruff fell to the ground! I don't think I finished the lesson that day. We were too busy laughing! I am so grateful to have known Mary Ann and for the memories. She will be missed.

Mr. Knight, Kevin and Tim, My thoughts and prayers are with you in the passing of your beautiful Mother. She was a beautiful lady inside and outside. She had a warm loving smile and she was always so sweet to me. She could play the piano as no one I have ever know. I know her students will always remember her. She had such a gift for playing. I know in Heaven they have already asked her to play for Jesus. May have peace in your hearts today and in the coming days. Kaye Ham Adamson, Forsyth, GA
